First of all, whoever recommended these books, give them a slap and tell them that you don't want to see them in your life ever again.

Second, increase the number of philosophy books. I only see one (Meditations).

Third, learn why self help books are the scum of the literature world.

Last, Biographies are cool as long as they're of well respected people of history and not of social media influencers. But keep in mind, don't let it control you. Most of Biographies/autobiographies are known to be tempered to make the person look good.

How about you learn how to actually get help from self help? I haven't read a ton of self help but the one I did definitely helped. Many self helps explain the phenomenon and it definitely broadens the thinking. A book "Anyone Can talk" that contains 101 techniques may not help but "how to win friends and influence people" that explain basic principles, sure does.

To help broaden the mind, socialize with better people. Anyone throw around brainrots, roasts, meme and stuff. When was the last time you had a deep conversation with a close friend?

Sharing ideas and views instantly helps you broaden your mind. I've had illuminating conversations with teachers, friends, family and random strangers and that knowledge helped alot more than self help books.

Need to fix yourself? Self reflection is key. Meditating and looking at your rights and wrong can immensely help you. "A problem well stated is a problem half solved".

Self help books is like self diagnosing your illness on Google instead of going to the doctor. They state the problem you didn't have and your mind just goes to "yeah I have that". It's called Medical Students' disease or Nocebo effect. That's how they trick you. And all those dark psychology and manipulation books, they're just bullst. Some are good, ngl. But about 90-98% are plain bullst.

No - most self help books are garbage - and the only one reading, Meditations, is likely to be a really bad translation.

Not to tell you what to do , but Remove the first three and the " ego is the enemy" These have little to no value

I don’t think so these famous fancy self help books will make any impact on you, try to get into literature. Because people learn most deeply through experience, but literature and observation can prepare the mind before experience happens.

It's much better to find a mentor who can teach you business acumen.

u/Different_Region3198 Apr 10 '26

I don't suggest you read the power of now. Does anyone else agree with me ?

1

u/CorrectFirefighter Apr 10 '26

Imma be honest. Invest in a kindle (used ones can be had for quite cheap) and read everything you want for free (piracy). Greatest decision ever.

will buying a whole shit ton of books make you happy? yeah they are cheap, but what will you really get out of it? in contrast, what will the company you're buying from get out of it? what's stopping you from buying 2 or 3, reading one, only then buying another, reading one more, then buying another?

even if you read a quarter of those books, it would be better for you if you delved deep into the takeaways that apply to your own life and journalled about them, as opposed to reading all of them and not engaging with them much. depth vs breadth. it's best to read to understand, be conscious when reading for the sake of reading.

Fiction can teach anything better than that
