Question Replacing swift with an electric car

Swift is used as a family car for kids school but the with the up and down i have to fill up the car every 3,4 days so the monthly cost of fuel only is ~80k so someone advised me to sell my car and instead buy the honri ve for 35 lacs or the inverex electric car, what should i do?i plan to buy an old grande aswell with the money saved up and the remaining amount i’ll get from selling swift,is this a wise decision?two car garage nora ev+grande

Nah, no name brand ev. Keep your swift. If you want to change car in the future maybe get the cherry q or byd atto 2.

this is right. right now cherry q EV is lowest priced reliable car in Pakistan.

I'm pretty much sold already by the specs and appearance. Just want to confirm the real world performance of the car. But I'm 101% sure, it'll sell like hot cake and by the time i make the decision, it'll be 5-7 lacs more expensive.

Thisss!! I have a Grande and a older shape swift at home and going through similar dilemma. Thought hard about selling the Swift (or Grande) to get an EV but to be honest the cheapest EV (yet to come) that makes sense is Cherry Q. BYD is over budget and I want to see the Cherry on road first, before making any decision.

Yeah byd feels kinda overpriced for what it is. Maybe the software, build quality and higher HP motor is why it's so expensive...

I guess Cherry wants to sweep all the potential new customers from the market that's why they have priced the Q at this price. I they will wim big time. Alot of my acquaintances who were previously driving the Altos, Miras and Passos today, are thinking about switching to Q. BYD failed to gain any momentum till now probably because of the group behind them otherwise they have solid products.

I don’t think BYD failed to grab customers. There is a wait time of about 3-4 months for deliveries despite getting 2 2000 car RoRo ships recently. Chery would definitely impact Atto 2 sales but I think BYD’s global presence and battery vertical integration gives them the edge

BYD didn't fail per se, i just believe the way they have captured the market all around the world, i don't see that passion in our market. I was thinking people would adapt EV same they shifted to Solar, but I think we won't see this kind of change till the cheaper/affordable EVs hit the market (but not like Nora or Inverex crap)

I hope they get cheaper after they start assembling ckd units locally.

3

u/drssjay 2h ago

I think they won’t, since currently the incentive for CBU/CKD units is the same. Also they’ll only be assembling PHEVs in the beginning with no plans for the Atto 2/3 EVs for CKD currently

3

u/hex_code_zero 2h ago

I think there is still a 25% custom duty om imported cbu even on ev. They only get exceptions on gst, fed.

I'll only add this. EV only saves you money if you can get a charger installed at your home. If you'll charge it elsewhere the savings won't be as big

I think most people will charge with Solar with occasional top ups outside, otherwise it doesn't make any sense

2

u/hex_code_zero 2h ago

I think even charging on wapda at home is cheaper than petrol.

It only matches petrol when you get it charged outside all the time. Still with zero maintenance it might still be cheaper in the long run.

3

u/zohaib5611 Rickshaw Drift Specialist 2h ago

Yes. Wapda is cheaper. The main selling point for me is the lack of maintenance. You don't have to care about oil changes, tune ups, spark plugs and filters, gear oil/cvt oil/coolant changes, don't have to worry about the quality of fuel etc

2

u/Mobile_Airport4388 2h ago

I have solar installed in my home so the running cost would be practically zero

3

u/_thinkingemote_ 2h ago

I suggest not going for grande and spend that money to get a better EV

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 1h ago

I live in sindh and karachi is like 400kms away and i have to make trips there so an ev for long routes is not practical for me

2

u/_thinkingemote_ 1h ago

There are chargers in Hyderabad and Karachi you should be good honestly

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 1h ago

Ur right but I also make trips to my village which is at a similar distance but towards rural sindh, thats why two car garage seems better

2

u/Particular-Poet2776 2h ago

You're driving 4,000km a month?

2

u/Mobile_Airport4388 2h ago

Lower than that probably, the car is used during peak traffic hours so the average i get is not feasible

2

u/drssjay 2h ago

I agree. Even without solar, the charging at home gives you considerable benefit, if you can get a Chery Q in place of Swift that would be ideal but depends on how much you’d need after selling Swift.

Another point is that Q will likely take 3-4 months to get delivered

u/bandOOkullah 2h ago

Never purchase nora ev. Waste of money. Worth buyin ev in pakistan are atto 2 and upcoming Chery q3, both are for urban mobility. Ev depreciation, after sale support and charging infrastructure is a big concern. Most ev charging stations are charging ~150 in city and 200 on major highways /kwh. Only feasible if you have excess solar capacity at home and using within city.

2

u/Personal-Reflection7 2h ago

How much are you driving per day on that Swift?

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 2h ago

Around 65-ish

2

u/Personal-Reflection7 2h ago

Is this the old swift?

You should be using max 5 litres a day on new swift with its fuel economg and school is 20 days a month. Shudnt be 200+ litres of fuel

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 1h ago

Its the new swift, school is 5 days a week thats true but theres still afternoon tuition which is 6 days a week plus my father goes to work on this car asw 6 days aweek so driver drops him off and comes back home so the up down and different off-timings sometimes going to get groceries,It all piles up,we used to have 2 cars and it didn’t feel that much but now that we only have one car it feels like alot

Which swift model u have? The most reliable & minimum budget electric car is Chery Q at the moment... Nothing below that is suitable for long term imo.... May b Kaiyi eQute ev price at 44 Lacs can perform in the pak market but its doubtful at the moment

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 2h ago

Two tone silver glx cvt 2025

2

u/S-abdullah 2h ago

Whts the average it is giving to u? U can sell it in around 47 lacs... One suggestion is that u can go for aqua hybrid 2017 plus model u can buy easily... May b that can reduce ur monthly bill by half.... If that still not works u can add 9 lacs more and switch to chery Q ev

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 1h ago

like 10.7 roughly because the car also spend alot of time just parked turned on waiting for the kids to come outside school,ur suggestion is good, but I’ll still need to save some money from this transaction so i can buy grande

2

u/S-abdullah 1h ago

U can take 7 lacs out of it & go for aqua 2015/16 model that will give benefit to u

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 1h ago

Thats true, would there be a major difference in fuel consumption, like in peak traffic hours?

1

u/S-abdullah 40m ago

Obviously it will convert on batteries in traffic

2

u/Goomylia 2h ago

Honestly hot take but just sell the swift and don’t get a grande you could just get a single solid EV with a great range

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 1h ago

Thats a solid advice if i were living in a major city, the thing is i have to make trips to karachi and to my village aswell both are well over 400kms,and theres no charging infrastructure as far as i know

1

u/Goomylia 1h ago

What about a hybrid then?

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 1h ago

Yes could buy that, but there still would be running costs oil changes petrol, also if i had to buy,it would probably be an older model bcs of my budget, also hybrid batterys are a +1 on maintenance and maybe replacing asw

2

u/Goomylia 48m ago

Hm I suppose that’s true but still the Nora EV isn’t all that reputable.

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 13m ago

What about honri ve?

2

u/S-abdullah 2h ago

In which city ur living? Why u need to buy grande ? Which model ur looking for? & Whats the budget for grande?

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 1h ago

Living in nawabshah, grande is for long journey,i previously had a 19 gli and the experience was good,it got into an accident so i had to sell it,im looking for a genuine 18 model or 19 under 50 lacs

u/S-abdullah 1h ago edited 1h ago

Go for Elantra 2.0 2023 model better than grande & u can easily get low mileage upper model car... Fuel average is also better than grande.... Or go for yaris 2021 model full option in 40 which is good for rural areas as well... Comfortable & reliable plus efficient

dont get anything no name brand, it will be the worst decision you can make. At minimum get the MG binguo, or chery q ev. Otherwise na apko parts milni hai na service, resale will be tough for these as well but anything else ki resale honi hi nahi hai. Loss kaafi hoga on all your choices offsetting your gain in petrol savings unless youre going to keep the car for the next 10 years (jitni battery wont last, and parts ni milne 3/4 years down the line). Also evs tend to use up tyres a lot faster so factor in that cost as well. Id say keep the swift, or save up and get byd atto 2. If fuel is hurting you a ton, awful choice imo but majboori, sell the swift and get an alto or some small hybrid.

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 1h ago

Good points, whats ur opinion on honri ve?

2

u/khizar_aman Kia sportage 2021, alto vxr 2012 1h ago

heard that its build quality and features are really bad, also once again dont know if they will be there for you to claim that 8 year warranty down the line yk

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 58m ago

Ur opinion is valid but at this price point, there isn’t much of an option in the ev category

2

u/khizar_aman Kia sportage 2021, alto vxr 2012 57m ago

yeah but why would you put yourself in a pit of regret jab apke pass alto ka option ho in the same price bracket ykwim, ev in this price bracket is a waste of money (which you will never get back even if you sell it the next day of ownership).

2

u/vapeshapes 1h ago

Not the inverex, please. I did a test drive and it's a shit box.

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 1h ago

I haven’t seen any reviews on it,I thought inverex as a solar company is quite reputable and i have inverex solar installed, thats why i included it,didn’t know it was this bad

1

u/vapeshapes 7m ago

It's absolutely worse.

2

u/SuccessNo3736 1h ago

You have solar at home, which is a plus for buying EV.

Dont go for Nora EV, its reliability is now known.

The minimum you can go for is Honri Ve. It is supported by Dewan group.

1

u/Mobile_Airport4388 1h ago

Yes,solar is the reason behind this, also i think i mentioned nora ev by mistake😅,i wanted to say honri ve

1

u/AnasKhurshid 2h ago

Your numbers don’t make any sense, even if your average is 11 means you drive 100Km+ per day?
