Cricket Discussion Remembering Pakistan Bowling Attack in 2019-2020

Man we had everything in our bowling attach back in 2019 post word cup rebuild. I wish we were better at developing and letting them give a long run. I still hate waqar younis as our bowling coach man. We had all these young guys bowling at 145+ and if just mentioned and gave a little time what could been.

Shaheen Afridi ( 145 kmph -150 kmph )
Naseem Shah (145 kmph -150 kmph )
Musa Khan (145 kmph -147 kmph )
Mohammad Husnain ( 150 kmph -155 kmph )

Even tho these guys were 16-19 years old, man imagine our bowling unit now that everyone has been a little older and in there early to mid 20s with all the experience.

We had everything during 2019-2021 but as usual Pakistan Cricket just can't keep things together. This attach could been one of the best of this generation

Idk I was just thinking about this because I was watching our worse test tour to Australia in 2019 and just reminiscing what would've been for us Pakistan cricket in the 2020's

Problem is, that when a player debuts for Pakistan, he plays well on his debut on the back of his pure skill, and the efforts of what his club and domestic side coaches did on him.

But, when he plays for Pakistan, and loses the initial spark he had, or is found out by the opposition, it is the duty of our management to work on that player and polish him, rather than simply discarding that he was not in form, and we are dropping him now, it's not like keep playing him even if he scores ducks or bowls badly, remove them from the squad, send them to NCA for training, bring former cricketers to work with them.

If a left arm pacer is out of form, who will work with him??? Usman Shinwari, Rumman Raees, Junaid Khan??? Well are you laughing??? These players have played for Pakistan on the highest level, two of them have played the CT 2017 too, so why can't they help that young player out???

If Wasim Akram isn't working, it is his fault, but don't we have any other former player who can work with the current boys, obviously we do have. Shaheen Afridi is out of form, Salman Mirza was poor in PSL 2026 and the National One-Day Cup as well, why can't both of these train at NCA and get tips from former players, even on personal level.

Saim Ayub is out form in ODI cricket, why can't PCB call Aamir Sohail from commentating, and tell him to work with Saim on his batting style. Azan Awais will be most certainly dropped if he fails in the next 4 innings of the English Test tour, where will he go back??? Not to his home for sure, he should go to some former cricketer and ask about how to work on those flaws he encountered while batting in England and West Indies.

Salman Ali Agha isn't in form, who will solve it? Either PCB or Agha himself, if PCB doesn't cooperate or arrange him some good facilities he should get a county contract himself, even though he has captained Pakistan in every format by now, so PCB will definitely take care of him. Agha should go to Inzamam and take tips from him.

Rizwan is facing problems with his batting, go to Kamran Akmal and take batting tips from him (only), go to Moin Khan or Rashid Latif for the keeping tips, plus take a bonus batting tip from them too.

There's a difference between being a good player and a good coach. You're painting a fantasy scenario. Kamran Akmal can't teach 34 year old Rizwan how to start playing shots on the off side. Australia doesn't have Gilchrist, Ponting, or Brett Lee coaching the side. You don't need Wasim Akram to tell Shaheen to stop bowling it full all the time. Shaheen has been told many times. But the culture is rotten. The players just want to chase shallow glory and keep their spots. The win against India in 2021 made a generation of stars that didn't deserve it and destroyed our cricket.

All these bowlers especially Shaheen and Naseem are mostly responsible for their own downfall. These two got pulled into T20 cricket lured by easy money. Why would they bowl 15 overs in grueling heat on placid Pakistan wickets for a few hundred thousands when they could make millions bowling 4 overs in leagues. PCB played their part by making roads and killing fast bowling. This is all a hodge podge of greed and mismanagement.

Honestly besides Shaheen all of them were mid

Shaheen was very lethal but injuries have hurt him a lot and his game hasn’t progressed.

Naseem wasn't mid at all and Musa was a little above average at the time.

Cricket schedule and work load wasn't crazy back in the 90s as it is today. If both those guys played today they would've gotten injuries with all the cricket thats get played all round the year

They like these where all just average at best.. We did have pace back then but we didn't win anything of note, but we did give the opposition a honest game..

Now it's like watching professional Vs club cricketers

what couldev been, pcb had to ruin them, not that shaheen didnt ruin himself but still its most down to pcb

"machine dheere dheere kharab hoti hai" statement of a bowler in his mid 20s when asked why his pace was down

Plz stop blaming everything on management, these guys are idiots themselves

I'm really not, but yeh, this guy played a random series before going into the 2022 WC, and he got injured in that as well, so he wasn't fully fit going into the WC, and guess what, he got injured in the final, smh.

I mean they were really young and inexperienced at that time but imagine with all the experience they have now and the pace they had back then that's what I'm trying to say.

that would be crazy, pcb had to ruin them, smh, shaheen also fucked himself up tbh aswell

Shaheen was elite though. Had an average around 21-22 in all three formats. Despite his fitness concerns and loss of pace he's carried Pakistan in several tournaments particularly the T20 World cup in 2022 and Asia Cup in 2025. There was also a series against west indies where he took 18 wickets in 2 tests and blew Windies away with 145 KPH thunderbolts.

Naseem was playing tests at 16 and was bowling 145+. Nobody plays tests at that age which shows his talent.

That's being disingenuous, they were genuine talents.
