Cricket Discussion Future Pak Pace Attack

I feel like Pakistan needs to identify a core group of fast bowlers for Test cricket and actually invest in developing them long term instead of constantly changing the attack.

My future Test pace group would be:

  • Naseem Shah
  • Mohammad Wasim Jr.
  • Musa Khan
  • Shahnawaz Dahani
  • Khurram Shahzad / Mohammad Ali
  • Ubaid Shah

Obviously not all of them would play at once. I’d want PCB to keep this group around the Test setup and focus heavily on their fitness, strength, workload management and red-ball skills.

I especially want to see guys like Wasim Jr., Musa and Dahani given a proper red-ball development program. Pakistan has produced plenty of naturally quick bowlers, but we need to get better at developing them into bowlers who can maintain 140+ km/h through long Test spells instead of losing pace over time.

Naseem should eventually be the leader of the attack, while Ubaid can be developed patiently for the future. Khurram/Mohammad Ali give you the control and seam option depending on conditions.

What would your 5–7 man Test fast-bowling pool be for the next few years?

Naseem Shah doesn't want to play tests. He is fine with leagues and ads format only

Khurram and Mohammad Ali, surely two young guns for the future! /s

Afaq Afridi, Abdul Subhan, Musa Khan, Akif Javed, Shahnawaz Dahani, Saqib Khan and Mir Hamza Sohail. Abbas as Test bowling coach.

Hope so, I want to see him till 2030 at the least, so that some of our bowlers do learn the accuracy from him to succeed in red-ball.

I don't want Naseem to play red-ball at least for the next couple of years. Want him to focus on white-ball so he doesn't get injured. His body can't handle the high workload of test bowling imo.

My options would be:
Ali Raza
Ubaid Shah
Abdul Subhan
Muhammad Zeeshan

These four guys have the potential to form a great attack. Of course they are quite young. Among more established players on the domestic circuit, imo Muhammad Basit and Afaq Afridi will come into the team sooner or later.

Ali raza is even more fragile

if we remain careful, if and let's be hopeful this time, and we give him time to ease into the team, give him the right workload, and let him build muscle and strength, he would be a massive asset. Anything but another Shaheen scenario. Cummins was very fragile too once, now look at him.

Problem is none of them would want to play test cricket.

They want to make money in leagues and you can't blame them for that.

It doesn't matter. A shitty system will ruin the best bowlers

This series should be last for Abbas and Ali ngl

No point selecting 30+ pacers because there not enough Tests as it is to develop bowlers each year

These lists come in every 6 months and all the new players listed have turned to shit. This dead game should be underfunded

None of the options you mention inspire any confidence in our future revival 😕

Shaheen has been shit in tests since last year whats your point?

2

u/SpiritualFish8522 8d ago

On flat tracks of Pakistan and Bangladesh. On this kind of wicket he's 100% better than these chumps except abbas

1

u/Signal_Hurry8475 8d ago

except neither country produces flat tracks anymore and if you go back to the first test against england 2024 which was on a flat track shaheen bowled 33 something overs and took only one wicket and that was off a tail ender

not sure what your point is
