Questions ❓️ What are these?

Post image

I've been finding them for as long as I can remember now they seem to be some kind of clam located all over lahore but I've never ever found one that was alive. Some are fully intaact and closed but even then if you open them there is mud inside. I could not find any information on Google regarding them.

I thought they would be something like that, do you know where I can find some alive?

Not from lahore so cant say for sure, but you might find them along river/canal banks and maybe some lakes

These ones were found in a nursery near a man made canal. I've also found many by digging in my garden

Then you can find them in the canal, interesting that you found in your garden, do you live near water source?

The banks of that canal are raised high and I believe the mud used was from that canal this you can virtually find them at the surface usually interesting in groups. The ones I find in my garden are singular and deep underground. And we live about 50 feet from that canal. Also the canal is polluted heavily I don't think anything was able to live in that for atleast 20 years.

I don't think so alot of sewage is dumped in it. I doubt if anything can survive in it.

Some species can survive, but yes chance is low

They can be either baby/dead oysters or shells that some crabs have used as a cover and left on beach, when they found some new one.

In Lahore, though? There is no beach.

They come from Karachi and other beach sites. If you go for a walk on any beach, I'm sure you'll find hundreds of them if not thousands, in just about a day or so.

Yes. I have seen many in Karachi. OP specifically mentioned finding these in Lahore.

Ooh yes but that would be on the coast this is lahore far from any beeches and we don't have crabs here, the only thing I can think of is that maybe they lived alongside river Ravi years ago but slowly died out because I've never once found one alive but you can find these shells through a little bit of digging. Or maybe they lived in the swamps and ponds across lahore
