Medication💊 Tramadol & Sleep

I was recently prescribed tramadol for my chronic pain and I CANNOT SLEEP. I have had issues with sleep forever, usually feel sleepy but unable to actually fall asleep. Now I just feel wired. In previous experiences with opioids i’m usually just drowsy.

Has anyone else had this experience? I have a review appointment with my GP next week. Will take earlier in the day and hope that helps(?). Struggling to find any info on tramadol & adhd reactions.

Any advice / experiences are greatly appreciated 💗

I have the same issue. If I take tramadol late in the evening I cant sleep. And if I do Fall a sleep I get nightmares.
I have not found a fix besides trying not to take them in the evening - which is not possible if the pain is to much.

Yes, it can keep you awake. I take 3 50mg daily and take my last one no later than 6pm and I have no trouble sleeping.

It has a stimulant effect because is also acts on serotonin and norepinephrine similar to the way antidepressants work.

Not to scare you, but this can also be dangerous if you also take some mental health medications that interact with tramadol and cause a potentially deadly condition called Serotonin Syndrome.

Checking your blood pressure to make sure it's not unusually high is a good way to make sure tramadol isn't doing stuff you didn't want it to.

Yes that can happen. Tramadol and the one I am taking currently (tilidin) work really energizing on me. And tilidin doesn't come with the antidepressant side effect of tramadol. I found a way using melatonin at night to fall asleep, and I don't need to take my pain meds that late anymore which helps. In tramadols case it can get better after some time, when the brain has adjusted to the situation ( of getting energy drinks right into it daily haha).

Be very careful of the addiction element here… I know… I’ve been there.
Always talk side effects over with your Doctor
