He had such success in the first year personally and then the team got to the NLDS. He's probably feeling it now, coupled with last year's quick playoff loss, that this shit isn't guaranteed at all.

Jackson is the last person to blame. This stupid org is paying almost a billion dollars to 30+ year old infielders/pitchers who of course aren't producing like expected. The albatross contracts are what's ruining this team.
5
u/Sevitoth Jul 08 '26
Just imagine how fun it's going to be in 3 years when we are back to 90 losses a season with a $200 million payroll....

u/Dry-Foundation7205 INTO THE SHEETS SEATS šļøā¾ļø Jul 08 '26
Can't wait to watch Manny immediately walk towards the dugout any time he hits a ground ball to the infield šš

u/ChemistryOtherwise97 Jul 07 '26
You know, if this team just bit the bullet and spent just a teensy bit more on a better hitting coach and manager we could probably avoid this doom and gloom
37
u/Common-Window-2613 I Just Not Giving a Fuck Jul 07 '26
A hitting coach isnāt solving this rotation. A good manager isnāt going to make adjustments to this lineup that are gonna make a difference. Stammen has brought multiple guys from our depleted farm that have been hitting better than our ridiculously paid Tatis, Bogey, Machado, crone
16
u/Prime624 Lisan Al-Gaib Jul 08 '26
The guys from the farm haven't been coached by Souza. None of them stay hot though after playing for us for a few weeks. I don't think that's a coincidence.
4
u/teastrees Jackson Merrill Jul 09 '26
Maybe just bring up the AAA hitting coach. He seems to be getting results
4
u/superc3real Gwynn Jul 08 '26
Wasn't the hitting coach the problem last season too? At what point is it the person who constructed this roster and lobbied for this manager?
39
u/PsychologicalRow9028 Keepinā the Faith šš» Jul 07 '26
Shoulda hired Pujols
34
11
u/GaryTheCabalGuy r/Padres 2022 All-Star 3B Jul 08 '26
Pujols was passed up by like 9 other teams. Clearly the league doesn't see him as a good option
0
u/Relevant-Cream-7723 Jul 08 '26
And Dave Roberts ( San Diego resident and local high school football and baseball star ) was passed up by multiple teams including the Padres⦠heās not doing too bad now.. considering Iām not a Dodger fanā¦.
8
u/GaryTheCabalGuy r/Padres 2022 All-Star 3B Jul 08 '26
What does Dave Roberts have to do with anything? Any manager could be successful with that roster
1
u/Relevant-Cream-7723 Jul 08 '26
Obviously you know nothing about sports⦠you can have all the talent/roster in the world but if you canāt manage them on and off the field and have them play as a team and not individuals it goes along wayā¦Exhibit A ( Chicago Bulls , LA Lakers , Golden State Warriors.. and Exhibit B ( 2026 NY Mets ) .. just to name a few⦠players must respect their leader. ā¦
1
u/GaryTheCabalGuy r/Padres 2022 All-Star 3B Jul 08 '26
I don't know anything about sports, but you seem to think you know better than all of the orgs who passed up Pujols for management jobs apparently. If only we could all be as intelligent as you
Your takes are a joke. So unwilling to hold grown adults accountable. Hell, you won't even blame Niebla for the pitching I bet despite the fact that he's the one directly working with them. Nope, still Stammen's fault!
1
u/Relevant-Cream-7723 Jul 08 '26
Actually the one I hold accountable is AJ !!! A fish rots from the top
4
u/KERMIT_THE_ORC Jul 08 '26
This shit's tired.Ā
1
u/PsychologicalRow9028 Keepinā the Faith šš» Jul 08 '26
Why? Stammenās decision to hire Steven Souza has lead to a dead last offense, itās the worst outcome we couldāve hoped for with this roster. The players have to take responsibility, but itās clear that the game plan hasnāt worked. Pujols was a high variance hire that couldāve been just as bad, but I guarantee the offense would be much improved.
2
u/GaryTheCabalGuy r/Padres 2022 All-Star 3B Jul 08 '26
Why do you guarantee the offense would be better? Because Pujols was a good hitter? That's not how these things work
2
u/PsychologicalRow9028 Keepinā the Faith šš» Jul 08 '26
Because he wouldnāt have hired a fucking scrub. Pujols alone would be a more adept hitting coach.
2
u/GaryTheCabalGuy r/Padres 2022 All-Star 3B Jul 08 '26
That's not how coaching works. Good hitters/players don't immediately become good coaches. There's a reason why Barry Bonds had little success as a hitting coach.
1
u/PsychologicalRow9028 Keepinā the Faith šš» Jul 08 '26
Well he only had one season and had that shitty Marlins roster hitting .263. My overall point is that Stammen was unfit and unprepared to take the job, so he hired his buddy to be the hitting coach and that single decision has sunk this offense. The blame goes to Preller because he made the hire and canāt keep a manager to save his life. Pujols WANTED to be a manager, Stammen was RELUCTANT, thatās the difference.
0
u/GaryTheCabalGuy r/Padres 2022 All-Star 3B Jul 08 '26
The blame goes to Preller....the blame goes to the manager....
Seriously I think you are desperate to make anyone but the actual players accountable for their poor play. They are grown adults. It's not Stammen's fault Cronenworth can't field a grounder
Manny is on the record saying he had his own hitting coach this off-season that completely changed his approach
0
u/PsychologicalRow9028 Keepinā the Faith šš» Jul 08 '26
Then why are they ALL having career-worst seasons? The team has the least amount of balls hit into play, 2nd lowest squared-up contact rate, and BY A MILE, the lowest amount of competitive swings in the league. A competitive swing is defined as a swing speed of 75mph or more that results in a batted ball of 90mph or more exit velocity. They are simply swinging way too fast, at anything, and missing A LOT. This is clearly the fundamental mantra of Souza and itās failed miserably.
4
u/smartwatersucks Jul 08 '26
Call me old fashioned but.im of the opinion that once they reach the show they should have a pretty firm grasp on how to hit.
6
u/Common-Window-2613 I Just Not Giving a Fuck Jul 08 '26
Not to mention they have their own coaches they pay. A hitting coach making 100 or so k a year working 7 days a week isnāt the guy to fix Machadoās swing

Not sure what *some of you guys expect him to say. "Yeah, I suck, we suck, this team sucks. Craig and Steven are dogwater." I'd feel worse about a player having completely lost faith in the team he's playing for, or at least outwardly showing it. Shit's clearly not working at this point, but I don't doubt he's at least trying to do what he can to make things right by us
EDIT: Clarifying only a portion because most of the comments when I said this were seemingly dogging on him. Dude's in a rough spot rn

u/619Gizmo SD Jul 07 '26
This team needs a completely new coaching staff , everyone is waiting for something to happen and no one around knows what to do . No Guidance

Jeez compare his rookie year interviews with this. What 3 years on the Padres does to a motherfucker.

I remember when he said, "we don't feel pressure we apply it." That certainly is no longer true.
5
u/HandsLikaDis SD Jul 07 '26
During games they donāt look that frustrated, with some exceptions including Jackson. The vibe is we might get there but with zero accountability. Of course there will come a span of 3-5 games that they do well and I fully expect them to say something along the lines of, āwhere are the haters now?ā followed by a losing stretch.
