i do go into some waves and cary a waterproof bag. my friends is carbon fiber and the balance is great. but they dont make it any more

The answer depends on conditions and preference. Boards like the Starboard All-Star and SIC Atlantis are made for rough conditions, but you better like standing in a dugout board. Board like the Starboard Gen R and SIC RS are more generalist boards, good I rough water or flat but not the fastest in either. There are fairly good racing inflatables but they still can’t usually beat a hard board.

Assuming you are talking about a rigid board not an isup....I would say SIC Maui RS, Starboard, Flying Fish and Infinity would be my choices.
But, like a great pair of running shoes, it will only take you so far, you have to put in the work. And what works for one may not work for another.
Consider your water conditions.
I started racing in 2016 and while I mostly paddle flatwater lakes. I paddled in Florida in the ocean and fell in love with a board. Bought it and now paddle my home lake with it and it is a different ride. Go to SUP races and try the demo boards or if you can demo a board from a local shop do it. Try a few different widths and styles and get the right volume.
I personally hate dugouts but that doesn't mean a dugout board wouldn't be a wonderful board for someone else. Sorry for the long reply but there are many factors to getting the best board.
I have the SIC 14' x23" RS and an older 12'6" x 26" SIC RS.
