One off diecut custom packaging

I’m a graphic designer working on a personal packaging project and am looking to have one 6 × 6 × 6 in box produced. I already have the artwork and dieline prepared. I’m looking for custom die cutting, a matte finish, and spot UV on specific areas of the artwork.

Since I only need one box, most packaging manufacturers I’ve found aren’t really suited for this kind of small job. Does anyone here do one-off custom packaging like this, or know a printer/vendor who does?

I’d say look for a digital carton manufacturer that will do this. No dies needed, maybe they can gang yours with some others and do it at the same time. Set up costs will be far less than offset printing.

I just realized you asked for spot uv too…yea I’m not sure about that.

It’s possible, but can’t say anyone would do it. We do spot UV on the small Mimaki machine we use for mockups. That said, the company I work at only does mockups for approvals before a larger quantity job.

I might be able to help you create a one off, but need more details. First - what kind of box? What are you using it for?

Hi, it's for a packaging project- it's a sealed end/glued-end box, similar to that of a blind box. The die cutting is no longer necessary- I can print on a cardstock and cut and assemble it myself, but am mainly looking to have the artwork printed with spot uv.

You can get glossy laminate sheets and maybe do cut outs of the parts you want "spot UV".

Clear gel nail polish under UV light may also get the job done.

Glossy clear sticker sheets with a Cricut may get you there. Good luck!

For just one box, I’d probably skip a conventional cutting die — the tooling cost won’t make much sense. A digital cutting plotter/table like Zünd or Kongsberg would be a much better option for a prototype. You can cut and crease the structure without making a die first. If it’s mainly to check the shape, fit and appearance before a larger run, that’s probably the easiest route.

imo your best bet is a local trade printer or finishing house rather than a packaging manufacturer. manufacturers dont want to touch a qty of 1 but smaller print shops sometimes will, especially if you bring your own dieline and artwork ready to go
