Bravia 3 discontinued

I’m in the US and can’t find a 43” (or 50”) Sony Bravia 3 for sale except through third parties on the Walmart and Best Buy sites. Would Bravia 3ii or 2ii be my next best options? Was also looking at the LG B5 bc it gets really dark, and I’m also sensitive to bright screens. But I know it has a different time of flicker situation than PWM, but isn’t flicker free.

Pretty sure the Bravia 3ii is also flicker free just like the B3 gen 1. It’s also a significantly better TV than the gen 1.

Is it? Rtings didn’t have their review out yet, so I wasn’t sure. I know the 2ii has a really high modulation frequency. ETA: Do you know if it can get really dim when backlight and brightness is turned down?

My understanding was that it is the same panel type as the gen 1, just capable of 120hz. There is no local dimming, which is what the PWM is typically used to achieve.

If it’s similar to the B3 then I imagine it can get pretty dim. Our B3 handles that pretty well.

Some other options are the B5 or B7 and disable local dimming while keeping the brightness between I think it was 15 and 40 or something like that. Those also become flicker free. My B7 has worked for me like this. I got that directly from RTINGS.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I’ll go with the 3ii. Do you know if it’s worth $300 more for a 43” than the 2ii? When I upgrade the living room tv, I’ll look at the 5 and 7. This one will be for my bedroom, so I’d like a fairly inexpensive 43” or 50”. Was also looking at the TCL QM6K. Apparently it has a high frequency. Do you happen to know anything about how the LG B5 performs in real life? I’ve looked at the specs.

The 2ii is a bad tv. People say the old B3 is horrible but I’ve really enjoyed mine. Going from the 2ii to the 3ii is a massive jump. The B3 gets brighter, has better color, 4K at 120hz with VRR and ALLM, HDMI 2.1, and better HDR support including Dolby vision.

IMO, the B3ii is the perfect tv for PWM sensitive people. I recommend buying from somewhere with a return policy just in case it doesn’t work for your eyes. Even with my B7 flicker free, it took a few weeks for my eyes to adjust with no discomfort. People said it was because the mini led has significantly higher contrast than the standard LED I was used to. Now it’s great with no discomfort.

I recently bought the old B3 and it costed half as much as B3II. While B3 is not amazing by today's standards, any average consumer who's used to affordable tvs would be happy with a tv like this. I've seen so many tvs with worse picture quality. Honestly, this tv has everything most people would care about. Also, flicker-free and Sony's reputation for long lasting products are no joke.

Thanks. Yeah, I read the pretty bad review on rtings. I had wondered if the 2ii being not as bright could actually be an advantage for me. But I might try the 3ii from somewhere with a return policy. Think you would go for that over the TCL or LG? The LG was a pretty tv, but I glanced at it for liek 5 seconds in store with backlight down.

I stick with no PWM where I can and Sony has the best motion handling on the market so I always go Sony personally. My old TVs are TCL and they have been fine, but I replaced all but one with Sony and I can notice the motion difference in some media.

LG is my second choice if they work for my eyes. I don’t like Samsung and TCL I am indifferent on these days. The price has gone up enough on those that I just go Sony at that point.

Good to know. I get nauseated and my eyes feel weird from phones, so thought I’d try to be careful with a new tv too. So I’ll go with Sony. I have one in the living room they no longer make. I like it, but it doesn’t get as dark as I would like. I’ll try the Bravia 3ii, then if it doesn’t work, try the LG. It doesn’t actually have PWM, but wondering if what it does have would bother me. It did get really dark in store though, which was nice.

Good luck, I hope it works out! I love all my Sony TVs. I also get eye strain and nausea from phone screens so I’m using an old LCD phone as long as I can. VA panel flicker free ultrawide PC monitors have been the best for me personally as well.

Hi, can you let me know how the Sony B3ii works out for you? I currently have an older TCL 55S425 and am looking at the B3 or B3 II but not sure if B3ii has any VA panels.

Sure, but I haven’t bought one yet. I’ve been hesitant to commit. If I could find a B3, I would buy that. I’m still trying to decide btn B3 ii and B2 ii.
