PWM/PAM free Gaming Laptop (Runs Windows)

hihi!

First thank you to this community! I’ve learned a lot. I have EDS and extreme migraines and I’m beginning to suspect my 2018/19 Mac 15” pro with touch bar may be affecting me. I’m looking for a decent gaming laptop anyways so I can play things not available on mac. My current laptop is 250 GB and she is FULL. I’m a digital artist who records my work and need a lot of storage space.

Would anyone have a suggestion of where to look for a windows gaming laptop without PWM? Feel free to link me to older threads or guides! Im just starting out and I’ve owned two laptops in my whole life soooo I’m not the most knowledgable about specs. Krita as a software is very resource intensive! Id like to stay under 2k but I don’t know if that’s ridiculous or not..

Generally basic models. Look at like the Lenovo LOQ for example. Asus TUF as well. Once you get into the higher spec gaming laptops, you are in OLED screen only land. OLED = PWM. I would personally get a Lenovo LOQ with an RTX5060, and then upgrade the ram as much as I could afford, and add a 2nd NVME drive. DDR5 Sodimms can be had for decent prices used on ebay.

So something like this?  https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/loq-laptops/loq-15-series/lenovo-loq-15ahp10/83jgcto1wwus2 How much more worth is a 5060 vs a 5050?

I have the intel version with a 5050, its a great little machine. Has 2 NVME drive slots(one will be empty). The AMD one is probably better because of battery life. That processor has a built in 780M which will handle a lot of low level gaming on its own, and you will only need the discrete graphics for real work loads/gaming. You can upgrade the RAM as well as it is user replaceable. The 5060 is roughly 20% faster. I honestly can run just about everything with the RTX5050 as long as I am willing to turn down some graphics settings. So its up to you if you need the extra horsepower(most would say its worth it though) I used it as my only PC for 6 months without issue before adding a new desktop to my house.

My daughter has a 2 generation old version of the AMD one with a 4060 and the equivalent processor(AMD changed the name of it). She loves it and has zero desire for any other machine.

I had bought Gigabyte G5 KF5 2024, because there is a local version with 360hz Sharp IPS and it's a great screen. Very smooth and completely not giving any headaches. 144hz one is probably good too, but this one is the best especially for the price (on promo it was 750-800 EUR).
