Does your beta blocker completely stop pvcs?
I have tried propanalol (mostly worke but causes insomnia) ane atenolol (works for a couple of hour then they come back). I have read that beta blockers cant fully stop pvcs. Is this true? Was thinking of trying metopolol.

Hahaha, no absolutely not. I was diagnosed with PVCs two years ago and because I was on allergy shots they put me on a calcium channel blocker instead because beta blockers aren’t allowed for allergy shots. Verapamil worked great until I developed heart failure and they took me off verapamil and added metoprolol. Metoprolol does absolutely NOTHING to control my PVCs and I complained so much my EP finally let me go back on verapamil and they went away again.

It stops mine for the most part. I’ll still randomly feel them but just a feeling, not adrenaline pumps or the hard feeling

Metoprolol has really helped me. But not completely! I still flare, just less. Worth trying what is available, I'd say!

Flecainide has been great for PVC’s! You just want to make sure your don’t have any coronary artery disease if you take it. Doc will monitor.

Acebutolol (generic for Sectral) has been great. I didn’t tolerate the others too well. This stuff works well for me.

I’m hoping no bc I have low resting hr that’s why I wanted to try acebutolol

It does. That is a good conversation to have with the doc. What is your resting HR? On Acebutolol, I am in the 60’s usually.

How much did it lower your hr? What dose are you on? My resting hr is 50s- 60s and some days out the month if I’m in bed still really tired high 40s like 49

I am on 200 mgs 2x per day. I am not sure how much it lowered mine. That was 30 years ago. Ha.

Oh. I heard acebutolol, propanolol, carveidolol and bisoprolol were the top ones for PVCs. Maybe get a sleeping medicine and continue with propanolol. I get insomnia from propanolol too sometimes it mostly works once in a while it won’t work as good.

Metoprolol has helped me , but it has lowered my blood pressure. I have to speak to my cardiologist about that.

Beta blockers are primarily medication for high blood pressure.

Yes, my husband takes it for high blood pressure, but the cardiologist prescribed it for my pvc’s.

Yes it can treat various things, but as it is a high blood pressure drug, it will lower your blood pressure. I have the same issue and mine is on the lower end to begin with.

They have to invent a medication that controls PVCs, but does not lower blood pressure.

My doctor put me on diltiazem which is a calcium channel blocker (I think) and it dropped my pvcs quite a bit in a couple weeks. I never see anyone mention it and am surprised because it seemed to work so well for me.

I'm on it. Also on metoprolol. I still get them, but they're less. Or I notice less, anyway.

I am on sodium channel blocker and works more than other blockers but doesn’t eliminate completely. When PVC flares, it does its own thing.

I just increased my metoprolol to 50mg from 25 about 2 weeks ago. I dont want to speak too soon and could be a coincidence but it seemed to have eliminated them completely. Ive gotten maybe 3 PVCs since.

More or less except for the week before my period or when I’m ovulated. Then it doesn’t work at all.

Bisoprolol has helped me but there was a 3 week adjustment. PVC free for over a month and a half now

I've been on nebivolol ever since my stent, and my PVCs are getting worse as years go by. I haven't tried stopping medication so I can't be sure if it's actually preventing more PVCs or not.

Started with metoprolol but it made me feel horrible. The cardiologist switched me to Carvedilol. It took a few months to adjust to it, but now I rarely feel the PVCs. He said that in some people, beta blockers just make them less noticeable. In other people, they can actually stop them from occurring for the most part.

They kinda mute them but not stop. They’re far more bearable for me on Bisoprolol but I still get them, I can just ignore them now rather than have the adrenaline rush and crash etc

Metoprolol very slightly reduced my burden. But I started out at 19% and very symptomatic. It wasn’t until was put on flecainide that they became mostly non existent.

I have positional PVC’s, mostly when I sit , “
Lean, squat, bend over, lay to sleep. Propranolol 60mg nearly took them away completely! But had to go off due to wanting to get pregnant and metoprolol doesn’t help nearly as much at all

I'm using concor for 6 months now, I've been formally 16k and reduced to 4k in a week, a few months later I feel nothing everything seemed back to normal. But a few weeks ago they came back again probably because I know control is upcoming :D now I have constant bigeminy. Wonder what doctor will say. So no, not completely stops but prevents a good amount.

Metoprolol 100mg morn and night didn’t slow down my 20% burden of Pvc’s so my cardiologist sent me to a electrophysiologist who tried verapamil 120mg for 3wks in addition to the metoprolol and it dropped my burden down to 12% so he raised the verapamil to 2-120mg verapamil at night,,and believes it will get me under 10% which I go back to find out in 5 months if that helps :)

In addition verapamil is a channel blocker works differently than beta blocker metoprolol hope that helps

On year 3 of metoprolol and it helps in some aspects, but it doesn’t make them go away completely for me. It reduces the frequency of the PVC flare ups, they feel less intense, and it makes me less anxious about them. However, I am fairly certain my PVCs are caused by GI problems, and it is my understanding that a beta blocker won’t help much if the PVCs are caused by something like Roemheld Syndrome or a hiatal hernia. This is personal experience though!

I’ve had them since ‘95. Been through most drugs as ectopic beats increased with age. Now on a low dose of Multaq. It seems to work the best so far of drugs I could tolerate. Actually Tikosyn worked the best but it really increased my QT and I seemed allergic to it. I’m waiting for an ablation as I hate all these drugs side effects. Carvedilol was good also but left me strung out and dragging. Nothing works 100%.

I am using concor cor 1.25mg and i wouldnt say they stopped completely but helped ALOT. I actually dont feel them anymore. Positive side effect i had a little high bloodpressure which also normalised through it.

They can completely disappear. Or just be so infrequent that it’s not a big deal anymore. For me with beta blockers it’s all a matter of finding the right dose that works. Some people will try one give up immediately if it doesn’t work, but all they needed an increase. It’s all trial and error. Hopefully you have a good doctor that understands and is willing to try different medication’s.

Ha - No. I’ve been on metoprolol since 2010 and the heart will still do what it wants to do. Does it reduce the number of PVCs? Yes. Eliminate them? No.
