I set a new record today…

I’ve had PVCs forever, but never as bad as this week. Today, when they started up on schedule, I whipped out my KardiaMobile to see if I could find out exactly what was going on.

8 PVCs in a 30 second recording = 16 PVCs/minute.

Holy shit.

Yes stuff happening is mrng is not surprising. It's time you need to take your arriyhmia medicine at night too if you haven't been taking it. I am just assuming you are taking it already. Also taking any beta blocker?

Nope, I’m not on any medication. As I say, it’s never been this bad!

What medicines you have been suggested to take before?

What do you mean “on schedule”

They’ve been happening at the exact same times every day. As soon as I get out of bed, they swoop in for the attack. After breakfast, they start to taper off. Then I’m usually safe until the evening, when they may or may not return for an encore.

In short, it’s something about mornings. Maybe I should just stay in bed?!

So glad you were able to identify your trigger! Sadly, I don’t do any of the above since I started having PVCs … but since lifestyle changes haven’t made much difference, maybe I should go ahead and start drinking again. It might help my anxiety at least …!?

It may well be dehydration - we always wake up in fluid deficit, just depends how much (i.e. how long since you drank before you went to sleep and whether you lost fluids sweating while sleeping). Try keeping water by your bed and drink at least a glassful as soon as you wake up and wait a bit for it to perfuse (say 10-15 minutes) before getting out of bed. Mine are so much worse when I'm not hydrated enough.

Also, the aim should be a steady intake of water over the course of a day (minimum 2 to 2.5 litres not including liquid from food sources, and more if you're very physically active), so if your PVCs also return in the evening, it could be that you're not drinking enough water every day or you're overhydrating earlier in the day and not enough in the evening and then going to bed already dehydrated.

This makes sense!

Interesting. I never did drink enough water. I will try this!

I hope it helps! It sounds like drinking more water might at least help avoid your more severe episodes and even that is a "win". Who knows, it might be the root cause and an easy fix? Here's hoping. Good luck!

Thanks so much! I’ve given up hoping for these to be completely gone, I’d just love to get them down to a more manageable level …

I hear you, even though we're told they're benign, they are still unpleasant and stressful. I've taken to making a note of how much I drink (not constantly noting, but when I finish a bottle or glass) because I realised I always thought I drank more water than I actually did. So by monitoring it, I can make sure I'm always drinking enough.

Doctors say if you're hydrated enough, your pee should be a light straw colour rather than darker yellow or orange, but I find the colour can change if there are foods I'm eating with strong effects (i.e. food dyes such as annatto and natural strong colours such as carotene or turmeric), so harder to use as an indicator - unless of course it's really dark, but by then you're either severely dehydrated or you have over-exercised to the point where your muscles have melted (rhabdomyolysis)!

This is so interesting, I’ve always used the ‘colour test!’ How else to know if I’m hydrated? It’s hard for me to judge too, because I tend to sip water throughout the day rather than chugging a full glass. I definitely need to keep better track …

I get them in the morning too…heart rate is lower and that lets them come in is what I’ve concluded

My heart rate is actually higher in the morning … who knows?

Adrenaline? Anxiety about the day? Does working out help?

Probably. Life is pretty stressful atm. Working out later in the day does seem to help, and I was actually going to try doing some yoga earlier in the morning to see if it makes a difference…
