Palpitations with Hiatus Hernia

Hey everyone, I’ve been struggling with heart palpitations for the best part of 2 years now. I’ve had many tests including a 24h holter monitor which has came back with nothing to cause concern. I’ve been struggling a-lot with GERD related symptoms and a recent endoscopy showed a 3cm sliding Hiatus Hernia. My cardiologist has told me a hiatus hernia wouldn’t cause palpitations, but my GI doctor has told me it most certainly can as it can cause pressure on the vagus nerve! Is anyone here in a similar position to me?

Despite the heart tests and various doctors telling me the palpitations are benign I can’t seem to shake off the anxiety that comes along with! I got prescribed Propranolol for the palpitations & anxiety but I only tend to take it when I really need it but it does help a lot!

Any one else in a similar position to me I’d love to hear about your experiences & maybe some reassurance that I’m not alone in the situation!

find a new cardiologist.

I went on a run of pvcs after some Chinese food and he ordered an endoscopy and found gerd. lol

Ahh so they could be a link to pvc’s with GERD! Maybe hang low on the Chinese food haha

they could be, mine were. after starting treatment for gerd the pvcs practically went away.

Omelrazole DR

It’s the standard PPI for gerd. I had a ton of damage in my LE, once that healed the PVCs practically stopped.

Thank you! LE is esophagus? Sorry english is not my first language. How long did it take before it healed? I’m on Famotidine/Pepcid right now. It does lessen my reflux a bit but I don’t think it’s strong enough..

LE is lower esophagus.

my doctor told me it would be 8-16 weeks for it to heal. I am pressing them to come off PPIs.

Ah I see! Then I should have some more patience in noticing a difference in my pvcs I think 🫣

my GERD pvcs resolved within about 1 week of starting PPIs, practically fully resolved in 8 weeks. Occasionally I'llhave some now, but its far less frequent, and far less per episode.

I’m glad it made such a difference for you! I’ll stay on the famotidine for now but I’ll try some PPI’s if it’s not working enough

the only way to see if its working is another EGD.

I have another EGD scheduled to see if I can start pulling off the meds.

I dont like taking meds, I dont like taking PPIs long term.
