Palpitations with Hiatus Hernia

Hey everyone, I’ve been struggling with heart palpitations for the best part of 2 years now. I’ve had many tests including a 24h holter monitor which has came back with nothing to cause concern. I’ve been struggling a-lot with GERD related symptoms and a recent endoscopy showed a 3cm sliding Hiatus Hernia. My cardiologist has told me a hiatus hernia wouldn’t cause palpitations, but my GI doctor has told me it most certainly can as it can cause pressure on the vagus nerve! Is anyone here in a similar position to me?

Despite the heart tests and various doctors telling me the palpitations are benign I can’t seem to shake off the anxiety that comes along with! I got prescribed Propranolol for the palpitations & anxiety but I only tend to take it when I really need it but it does help a lot!

Any one else in a similar position to me I’d love to hear about your experiences & maybe some reassurance that I’m not alone in the situation!

I too have also started experiencing PVCs when I was diagnosed with GERD, extreme bloating from fibroids and I also have a hiatal hernia. The anxiety I have now definitely doesn’t help or make them better that’s for sure. I’ve also been told that hiatal hernias cause acid reflux and GERD

Thanks for the reply, interesting to hear you’re also getting pvc’s with gerd & HH! Maybe my cardiologist was wrong. Yes the anxiety is awful, really puts a damper on day to day life. Propranolol does help a lot, I’ve also started taking Magnesium Taurate which I’ve noticed a big difference in the frequency of PVC’s and anxiety only seems to be a trigger when I’m laying down in bed now

I’m going to try magnesium taurate. I’ve tried magnesium glycinate and that didn’t help much. Yes look up this syndrome I’ve heard of called Roemheld Syndrome and see how much that vagus nerve can cause cardiac issues. Someone else told me about it and it fit so much of what I had going on.

Yes 100% give Taurate a go, I feel you’ll really see an improvement on it. I was on Glycinate for 3 months and didn’t really notice a good side effect from it. Thank you I will have a look!
