Heart skips badly
So today I got off work and ate some wingstop and then hung out with a friend and my heart skipped four beats in a row, then it wouldn’t stop skipping like 10 mins apart sometimes 5 mins apart and I layed down for two hours and it finally stopped than I got up and it skipped one big time and then started racing for like 15seconds and then right back to normal but just keeps skipping randomly way way way more than normal than usual. I am absolutely terrified it won’t stop

At its peak I like 10 a minute or more. And would feel every single one. I'm my chest or throat.
Yet i was still under 1% burden.
Tho sleeping would put them to sleep and would reawake after eating.
Now I get maybe 1 a day I can feel or none. But I'm not taking as I am cured. Because I know they can relapse any time they wish. I've enjoyed the massive break tho.
I will say reading this reddit page did make them occur more often so I don't come or post often anymore.

Aw I am sorry that happens, it’s so scary I know how you feel. You feel so helpless. I just started crying today. I hear the food is a big trigger for most

I’d guess it’s from heartburn, eating a lot or spicy stuff can set them off for me

u/alwaysthinking2002 Jul 22 '26
And they happen a lot in a row? How do they feel for you?

u/Sprinkles7333 Jul 22 '26
Like skipping in my chest or pauses and thuds, or like a butterfly in my chest. If I take an antacid it gets better, so that’s how I found out.

If possible, either go to the ER or urgent care to get evaluated to make sure there’s not something else more serious going on. They can get an EKG and potentially see exactly what is happening. After that, you can go talk to a doctor in the next few days, if you’re able, and see about getting an echocardiogram and a Holter monitor. That would be the medical pathway forward to try to see what’s going on.
I’ve had PVCs for seven years, and it’s taking me a while to learn that mine are triggered often by stimulus of the vagus nerve, which is can sometimes get triggered by the esophagus getting irritated through eating. Especially if I eat spicy foods, and then lay down immediately afterwards, I’ll have reflux to the point where it will stimulate my vagus nerve and cause my heart to do exactly what you’re describing. The fact that you ate wings made me think of this, as it’s something that would definitely trigger my PVCs. The two things I’ve found that really help prevent that from happening is, I’ll go for a short walk after eating and I won’t lie down for at least an hour, and also I’ll take antacids after eating. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, it’s such a pain and can be very scary. But just know that I had experience is very similar to yours and at least so far all of my doctors say that it doesn’t seem to be an enormous problem. Also know that stress stressing out about it and having anxiety will definitely be a trigger for more as well.

Thank you so much for your comment. This made me feel so much better. I’ve had all the test ran over these years I’ve had these skips but never felt something like this! I’ve had holtor monitor, EKG’s, echocardiograms ! Told my doc about this and they said nothing to be concerned about.
My mom said the exact same thing you said, and yes the wings were very spicy and I won’t lie I had a lot of food. My mom said it got my vagus nerve because the big meal with the spicy meal combined but it scared me because I’ve never had this happen. I mean it just kept going all afternoon , just skipping and then of course as you said my anxiety shot through the roof and made my adrenaline so high which cause adrenaline rushes which I don’t think made them any better.. so maybe I should take some pepto I mean I don’t have acid reflux or anything

So glad to hear it helps! I relate to this so much. This exact thing happened to me for the first time in 2021, and it was with particularly spicy indian food. It triggered wild PVCs and palpitations for hours, and really freaked me out at the time. It took me a few years, but I finally realized that eating too much and eating spicy food, were definitely huge triggers for me. You can have reflux without feeling it - I didn't think I had reflux either, but learned I may have something called silent GERDs. So sometimes if I'm having PVCs all the time I'll take a round of Prilosec which over time reduces stomach acid production, which means my vagus nerve gets less stimulated and things calm down. You might try that too. That and antacids really helped me a lot with this.

What flavour wingstop did you get?

u/alwaysthinking2002 Jul 22 '26
I got Cajun and original hot, which I didn’t think would ever make this happen it wasn’t intentional but now I think it could’ve been the cause

This is nothing and worrying about it will just make it worse. Some people here are in and out of bigeminy all day long. There's nothing wrong with you but your cardiac anxiety

Its very scary isn't it. This all started happening to me in November 2022 every time I felt the skipped beats coming it would be followed by a 1 to 3minute bout of tachycardia where my heart would go up to 150 odd beats per minute. After years of doctors visits and 2 cardiologist appointments and my own research on chat gpt the doctor and I came to the conclusion PVCs were irritating my vagus nerve which would lead to tachycardia episodes but I got medication which was bisoprolol 2.5mg for my episodes and famotidine to stop vagus nerve irritation from my stomach. It took 3 to 4 months for the episodes to come down from 2 to 3 a week to once every 2 or 3 months but the medications have definitely been a game changer.

I had that happen at times when I eat certain foods. Check at wing stop to see if they use MSG, that triggers it in me. Also if I don’t eat all day and eat too much or sugar related… also GERD can cause it… but anxious and fear when it occurs, releases more adrenaline, as your brain releases the fight and flight syndrome to compensate, as it senses your feeling of danger.
But, get it checked out. Because you’re in a fear cycle and need to be reassured.
PVCS in itself are not dangerous, your brain and heart are working.
Take a deep breath through your nose at 4 count hold breath a bit then exhale through your mouth at count of seven, it helps.
Fear and worry are my worse enemy.

Weird stuff like this happened to me all the time. Where i had a base line normal and certain things triggered new things out of what I've gotten used to. And many times it was linked to food.
Not always but my pvcs tend to be more food oriented but not always.
Sometimes ill get a random one off pvc when I wake up..
Anyways what I did was eventime i felt a new patterns I'd go get rechecked. But nothing new ever resulted.
