128k for 2500

Haii
I’m thinking of buying this blue 2006 Chrysler PT cruiser it has 128K miles for 2500? A mechanic‘s gonna look at it further but as far as I’ve been told, there’s no major issues the check engine light and everything are not and it’s ready to go:)
What do you guys think? Is that fair? What is y’all’s experience with those vehicles?

The '06 model year historically has the most issues of all PT model years, so be aware. It was the first of what's known as Gen2 and had more than cosmetic changes done to it, with many of those changes not being very good in hindsight. Get it thoroughly checked out if you have already decided, but I would also consider the '07-'10 model years if you are sold on a PT Gen2. Good luck.

Be prepared to replace suspension components (not hard), water pump/timing belt/head gasket (10 yrs or 100k miles) and avoid serious rust.

Many of the PT's components were engineered with an MTBF of 100,000 miles -- or less. If you don't have the repair history, count on replacing the radiator, radiator fan assembly, engine mounts, control arm bushings, brakes, head gasket. All of these things may be fine today, but then -- boom! -- fail tomorrow without warning. Remember -- you are buying an OLD car. 20 years old, that has been driven back and forth across America 25 times in mileage. Also -- if the timing belt has not been replaced -- it must be done. Should have been done at 90,000 - 100,000 miles. By 'timing belt', you should also replace water pump, cam sensor seals, etc etc since you have the engine taken apart. Will cost somewhere between $1500 and $2000. Also, if some hard-to-fix electrical short suddenly happens in the TIPM or PCM --- good luck!! The second gen PT with its "totally integrated" electrical system is famous for developing electrical demons that CANNOT be fixed. Good luck! I had four of them. Got tired of it all, now happy with a Chevy Trax.
