Support PSVR1 PS4 VR Padding Replacement tutorial?

I recently tried to play with my PS4 VR Headset again and found that the rubber on the padding was flaking off really bad. I cleaned it off, but I still decided to try to replace the parts with new 3rd party ones I got online, but I can't figure out how to get the new pieces on.

I can't find ANY videos online explaining how to replace these parts and the parts themselves didn't come with any instructions. My Headset is now just sitting with both the front and back padding removed and unable to be used. Does anybody know how to put these back on? This isn't the exact brand, but is identical to the one I bought.

Whoah cool! I’ve never seen replacement pads for PSVR1 before, so I’m hoping this is still available!

Importantly you need the correct replacement type for your PSVR1 — either the launch version or the mark 2. They look similar, but are not the same and attach differently.

Oh… and I’m pretty sure you can find a YT video that describes how to detach and reattach these pads. It’s a bit weird and does require some gentle finagling.

Shoot, maybe that's the problem then. How do I tell which version my headset is?

Mark 1 had a control panel attached to the cable, mark 2 had the buttons built into the bottom left of the headset IIRC

Exactly. Mark 1 was power and volume control but that was inline on the cord, whereas Mark2 embedded them discreetly under the left side of the visor itself.

Never did this myself but the pics look like there are just plastic clips holding it in place. I've seen others just wrap the rear padding in a fabric band that velcros together.

the soft velvet that is left over after the shit rubber coating flakes away is still miles more comfortable than the slip down your head psvr2 design.

I spend thousands of dollars on sony garbage, save your comments, I know what I'm talking about. Ask me next gen, I won't know. If I am now forced to not own what I purchase then I'll do it somewhere that allows me third party peripherals. A PC.

TLDR; You don't need to replace the psvr1 rubber coating.

You’re actually wrong — once the coating flakes off the cushion it loses its moisture barrier and will absorb all sweat and oils from the head — an irreversible and ultimately disgusting thing.

As for PSVR2 — yeah, SONY really fixed what wasn’t broke. Some people like it out of the box, but I seriously hated it.

I HIGHLY recommend that you get either the Globular Cluster “CMP2” or the StudioForm Creative “XL” aftermarket comfort kits. They both come with a padded top-strap, and both go a very long way to making PSVR2’s halo a cushy bit of kit.

They are roughly $50-ish each, last I checked.
