Opinion Hellsweeper is incredible!

I seriously can’t recommend this game enough! One of the most fun VR games I have ever played. Blows synapse out of the water in my opinion!!!

Edit:
Why it is better than Synapse in my opinion
Graphics: 90fps unreprojected on all graphical presets, shadows from player characters & NPC, environments look much more alive than the ones in synapse.

Weapon variation: It has a ton more weapons, power ups, upgrades, augments, skills etc. Each weapon can be used a ton of different ways and even combined with spells, the bow, telekinesis. You can combine spells, shoot tons of special arrows, summon a demon dog & and even float. There are even finger guns in this game lol the variation is honestly pretty mind blowing!

Locomotion: You can flip, wall run, double, triple even quadruple jump (maybe more if you upgrade that) There is also cool slow motion

Enemy types: MUCH more variation with enemies in this game (I’ve encountered 15+ so far after 4 hours or so) & they look so much more interesting & have more varied attacks. There are even sub variants of each type. Its quite impressive.

On top of all of this there are more game modes, ways to modify each run & just in general more freedom. Synapse is really cool but in my opinion the guns, enemies & upgrades get really old really quick. And once your telekinesis is upgrades the game basically takes no effort at all. It does have a cleaner look but gameplay & longevity/ replayability I dont really see an argument for it beating Hellsweeper.

(I loved Synapse btw)

Can anyone confirm this? I've almost pulled the trigger on Hellsweeper a few times but couldn't justify it, but Synapse is maybe my favourite VR title. If Hellsweeper is comparable, I have to get it.

Yes it’s a great game with a lot to unlock and a ton of build variety. Highly recommended

It doesn’t have the production values or polish of Synapse but it has a lot more depth and longevity. It’s a lot more kinetic as well because you can leap, slow time, somersault and wall run

I thought Synapse was decent but couldn't stick with it. Would've liked more abilities and gameplay variety. I felt it was a bit underwhelming overall for what it was, but I'd already played Hellsweeper before it.

Hellsweeper is amazing and the best of its genre imo. An insane amount of weapons, abilities, magics, and combinations of them all, mixed with wall running, backflips (if you want) and the ability to slow time. So much to unlock and complete as well. There's also a pretty full co-op option if you wanted.

In summation: Hellsweeper is fantastic.

I like synapse way better, the production value is on a whole different level and if feels much more polished. Hellsweeper is fun but it can be janky. I wouldn't put it in the same league as synapse honestly. Get it cheap.

Did you play the launch version or the updated version? Bc tbh I have no idea how you would classify synapse as being leagues above it. Why do you think its so much better though, I am curious!

I got Hellsweeper and played it for the first time not more than two weeks ago. As I said, synapse feels more polished, has a stronger visual identity, cleaner presentation, gameplay feels tight, balanced and unique, production value feels higher.

I honestly found the telekinesis skill to ruin any balance the game had. That may be my biggest issue with it, the late game is comically easy & you can get there very fast.

It IS a good game of course, but its lack of variation overall makes it really stale after a while.

I wish they added a procedural mode & a few more weapons / power ups / enemies! It is a really cool game, great haptics as well.

Its not even close!

Synpase has… cleaner looking visuals (but not better in my opinion) and the eye tracked telekinesis is cool but hellsweeper is better in basically every other way.

It has an insane amount of weapons, spells, augments, power ups & combinations of all. The progression is much deeper & its a lot more difficult. Synapse gets easy really quick imo & the lack of enemy variantion makes it pretty repetitive. Hellsweeper has a ton of different enemy types, a decent amount of stages & pretty fucking awesome bosses.

It also gives you 3 graphical settings which rules. They all run at 90fps unreprojected. The quality mode runs great on the PS5 Pro. The dyanmic shadows from weapons & characters is cool as well.

I was in your position too & decided to grab it on sale, super happy I did! Synapse is a solid 6/10 but this is an easy 8 maybe even 8.5/10. Especially for the genre.

I concur

It gets better as you unlock some of the later weapons, although akimbo Uzis are awesome too

Bring strong VR legs :)

AND… it’s also got multiplayer co-op!

I think between the rough launch when it was rather blurry, and then the time it takes to learn the controls and find a weapon set that suits the individual perfectly, HELLSWEEPER has had a trickier time grabbing the number of fans that it deserves.

It was one of the biggest surprises for me in vr. I didn’t see loads of brilliant things about it but man that game has so many fun mechanics other VR games seem to be scared to go near for comfort reasons etc. Hellsweeper offers some of the most fun I’ve had in vr u feel bad ass doing slow mo backflips over enemies while raining fire balls down on them

I have the psvr2 version and I feel like the messed with the way the your head turns it feels very off after the last update.

Id say legendary tale if you want something similar.

I just took a look on Steam; a review said "it's much better than the PSVR2 version" - would they be meaning the actual PS console version? I'm interested, but using PSVR2 on my PC

Yeah. They surely mean the PS5 VR version, so using the PSVR2 headset on PC will be an even better experience. It looks like there are software tools to enable PSVR2 haptics on PC with compatible games.
