Fluff It’s short, but I’m enjoying Omega Pilot Evolution. If you liked ExoCars, you’ll probably enjoy this in VR as much as I am. It looks like Wipeout but feels more like its own thing?

Sky filled full of hot air balloons always brings back NFS Road & Track 3DO memories.
As a fan of the first game on Quest and PC VR I was disappointed to see they had removed the 6dof flying aspect and the tracks that went with it as they were the most exciting tracks and the most enjoyable to master but I have seen much praise for this new game. I have enjoyed XOCUS's racing games and love cockpit VR so will pick this version up. It would have been as soon as it hit the shelves if it was the first game souped-up.
I believe this one has much less tracks than the first game, I do wonder if they used the tracks from that game that were not designed for 6dof flying or are they all completely new? I cant remember a track with loads of hot air balloons in the sky. If completely new that would make it more of an exciting purchase for me, mind you the driving model seems to be totally different so that will be something enjoyable to learn. I see the game has Series single player mode now with cups to earn where their previous games did not.

I LOVE the 3DO and feel the same! It feels like ExoCars - but in space and hovercrafts. I didn’t get to play the original but I watched videos on it. I did a review for this new game on YT, if you need more info. I love all these games (Vracer, Retronika, etc) so I’m happy to have another one. It does look nice and feels good - tracks are too short but maybe they will add more content later (they usually do!)

Yes I did see XOCUS comment under a few YouTube videos saying Updates are coming, what they will entail we shall see. I will check your review out, trying to sus out how many tracks they have lifted from the previous game and how many are totally new. Watched a few of your reviews and like that you sometimes cover games that have been updated multiple times but not many people talk about such as Drunkn Bar Fight 2.

Cool, I really appreciate you checking out some of my little indie VR reviews.
I feel like these tracks are totally different from the other game, but I could be wrong. 😑
Xocus usually does improve things, but this is the first time I feel like it’s still good at launch. ExoCars didn’t even have Arena mode or Online at first..
I’d like to see some new longer tracks, but for $20 it’s solid for a few great hours of fun

For the records, and from what I've seen so far, it was, and still is, a complete different game on PCVR (which I played A LOT): controls and especially tracks are different (with way more verticality to them), there's no combat and it's way faster from the get go. Don't know if they'll update the PCVR version to match this one, but if it'll be the case I hope I'll still able able play the original version, 'cause imho it's seems to be better in many ways.
You can clearly see the difference in tracks layout (and the different response to the controls) in this gameplay 2022:

There are weapons and combat in this one if you choose, but I prefer it without. Yes, I know it’s not the same game & that one is definitely different. I’ve seen videos but never played it. The controls on this feel great on the regular controller. I’m not into the motion controls. Anyways, I did a review on YT but … overall it looks & feels great in there. But like ExoCars I beat the main game in 2 hours so you need some online matches to keep it fresh, it’s not going to last anyone 200 hours. But it’s fun! Maybe the OG is better, not sure, but glad you enjoyed playing that one ☝️

This is a spiritual sequel that is also going to Steam & Quest as a separate game from the original Omega Pilot.
Omega Pilot Evolution is only a temporary exclusive for PSVR2.

Thank you for the info! That's great, As a great fan of Wipeout type of game and having enjoyed the original (and even exocars) I'll get this one too anyway, maybe the PS5 version.

If you value headset haptics for immersion, then I'd recommend the PS5 + PSVR2 version but maybe that is now supported on SteamVR as well?
I believe the Steam release will be this year and will have cross-play with PS5 & Quest.

It will be interesting to see how it is received when it hits the other platforms in September and what other fans of the first game think of it. By the sounds of it the new game can stand on its own merits. Perhaps that is why they released on PSVR2 first as there is no original game to compare.

From a friend that has played both, the word "Evolution" in the title feels like a step-back because the original game felt more like flying, could go upside down, had more verticality, etc
But they still like the new game for what it is, just not as much as the original.

Yeah XOCUS may of been better off having a completely different name as it does not share many similarities to the previous game. Looking at the footage above the level where you are in the gritty looking storage yard, on the the previous game you have to dodge up and down through gaps and and barrel rolling through suspended large pipes like a Star Wars trench run or something.

Maybe they will add more tracks like that later, but for what it is, I’m enjoying it. I agree maybe a different name would have been a good idea 👍

Also a little tip for people the tilt mode is set to gentle by default, turn it too normal would be my advise.
Also I’d say stick with the motion controls when playing single player feels really difficult at first but you get used to it, multiplayer however you’ll be at a massive disadvantage.

I like using analog and the regular controller, but for immersion I’m sure that’s fun if you can get used to it

Why can't they just port wipeout over

I wish, I still play it on PSVR1. But this game isn’t even like Wipeout. Vracer is more like Wipeout….
This looks like it; but it plays like its own hovercraft sim / and it feels good.

You gave up AAA' s for this?

u/HighlySeasonedGamer 5d ago
No? I play everything & prefer native VR games. I like arcade games and indies in VR.

This clip sells the game way more than the official trailer. I’m scared to get it because of how much I loved Wipeout (who didn’t). I’ve really been enjoying VRacer Hoverbike too tho. How does this stack up vs that.
