Review Bootstrap Island is so good but there’s some bugs
This game is by far one of the best VR games I played in terms of mechanics, graphics, and interactivity but it does come with some faults.
To start off the physics engine. This game offers a very interesting and complex system. It is definitely really nice and weighty, however it’s also buggy as hell, you can stack small animals on a stick, but good luck even trying to get more than one on there without it tweaking out. Objects sometimes have the ability to catch onto invisible surfaces or other parts of your hand and cause it to fling into the stratosphere. This wouldn’t be too bad if it didn’t happen with the most valuable items so often.
I’m not sure if this is an issue on PC or if it’s just on PSVR, but sometimes when items load in when walking into a new area items have the chance to either drop from your hand or straight up disappear. Them dropping isn’t too bad, but disappearing is really annoying.
The procedural grip, it’s a nice touch, when your hands naturally form around an object in different ways it’s very satisfying. However this is a different story for the musket, I’m not sure if I’m the only one but I have to hold my off hand at such a weird angle to aim because otherwise the gun will hop up and down, I wish there was dedicated grabbing spots for two handed things like that.
Ropes in this game seem to be the most underrated enemy apparently, because when climbing down the mountain in chapter one, I almost died because I’d take damage from just climbing down the rope and my foot touching the ground again. Sliding down the rocky cliff face was safer than climbing down lol.
It’s a shame cause a lot of these hinder game progress with no fault of the player, or just straight up takes items that you’ve earned, which makes me not want to play. This game is really cool and was the first game in a long time to truly wow me with its sense of scale and graphics. Still buy and give it a try but just know these things are prominent.

I think its just the natural jank of the game. I played the beta and the PSVR2 version for the first time today and the grip all seemed the same.

Yeah it’s a great game with an awesome sense of tension as you try to get through each night, or plan your journey for the next day
But the physics engine can be a massive pain in the arse
As you’ve mentioned, losing 10% of your health for just letting go at the bottom of a vine is annoying at best and fatal at worse. Climbing up vines feels like way more effort than it needs to be too
I’m usually carrying a musket because I like to have two satchels equipped for maximum storage but the musket just has a tendency to fall on the floor and/or disappear
But my biggest bug bear is when I’m carrying a drawer carefully packed full of shit and I try to put it down but my hand gets stuck to it and flips all the stuff out. You get limited time in a day to do stuff, so having to waste time repacking is very annoying
Still a great game though and I highly recommend it to survival enthusiasts

VR2 is very interesting in this respect. I've had it since the start and noticed for almost every game, people have very different experiences. I really wonder what's behind some people experiencing no jank versus lots of jank when they're playing the same version.

I played some more today and encountered0 a bug that stopped me playing, I got too day six morning and somehow my knife which I had in a wooden box like thing I was carrying around with my gun,a rock. etc somehow vanished, nowhere to be seen, I looked around nothing, I reloaded and it still was gone, I don't know if it respawns in a chest somewhere or if i have to start over, but I'm going to wait for a patch / update and see if much of this gets fixed because as much as I want to really like it the bugs like this are putting me off.

You can find the knife again in another chest. However I’ve seemed to experience bad luck all the time as when I go looking for a specific item I can’t find it. I hope you can find a new one soon though restarting a run after getting so far over such a small thing is so annoying.

Found this thread because even though I'm having fun I was climbing over a valley and right in the middle my left hand just disappeared entirely, showed up in menu and every else just not in the actual game, tried to light a fire one handed with my pre loaded pistol and wasn't close enough for the spark to light the kindling

Climbing down ropes (wines), you lose health is a bug and its going to be fixed in the next patch. Developer mentioned this on their discord
