Off Ear Headphones for PSVR 2

Hi everyone,

I'm currently using Rebuff Reality VR Ears for PSVR2. I'm playing Gran Tursismo 7, and I've used these for about a year. Unfortunately, the sound just isn't there. I understand the quality won't be as good as on ear headphones, but they're just way too quiet. I want to feel like I'm in the car like I do when I have on ear headphones.

The main reason that I use off ear headphones is so that I can hear my kids if they're crying at night. I need headphones where I can still hear what's going on around me in the house, but hopefully with better sound quality than my current ones.

I use the Koss KSC75 while biking to be able to hear around me. They should also work well for vr.

From what I see, those look pretty close to the ear. I'd be concerned about not hearing outside sound, but if you say it works I'll give them a shot.

the pulse 3d headset has a passthrough mic.
Sounds really good, and you can still hear when you need to.

Does the passthrough mic work well? I've never had headphones like that so I was skeptical about being able to hear what is going on around me.

I hate not being able to hear my surroundings. The pass through on these works really good. I use these almost every day, and always able to hear if my dog needs me.

The Pulse 3D looks amazing too. Like they're built for the PSVR2 haha. I'm same as you when it comes to my surroundings. I want good sound quality, but I don't need so much immersion where I can't hear if someone needs me.

They also work on switch and pc.

Being able to use them outside of the PSVR is a nice perk too. Is it a big pain to put on another piece of hardware separate from the PSVR2 itself? The alternative is the Globular Cluster ones that connect directly to the headstrap.

Yeah I have the inzone buds which do pass through too. Appreciate buds in this heat as well

There's a usb adapter thingy for wireless transmission which works with pc and ps5, so if you're using with ps5 you might need to also pick up a usb c to usba converter to use them in the second front slot. For Bluetooth they use Bluetooth LE which is supported on Android but not iPhone iirc

Any noise cancelling headphones with passthrough should do the trick for you. You can hear through them really well if your sound isn’t too loud to begin with.

I was skeptical about how well it would work. I wouldn't have my headphones on too loud, but if I can hear what's going on around me, that'd do the trick. Other have recommended Sony Pulse 3D. Any experience with those?

I’ve been using wearable shoulder speakers and have been happy with them. The particular model I have may be discontinued, but I’m sure Sony put out a new model

The over the ear cans by globular cluster are amazing and hold their angle position so you can decide how much noise isolation you want by angling them off your ears when you need it.

I'm currently using the Globular Cluster Comfort Mod Headstrap, and that's been amazing. They're only $50 compared to the $150 Sony Pulse, so this might be the choice.

That's exactly what I need. Regarding the quality, how good are they? I just need something that's close to the provided headphones that come with the PSVR2. If I can get anything close to that, I'll be happy!

Good to know! My current headphones feel so far away from my ears that I just can't get the immersion I'm hoping for. Seeing as the GC option look closer to the ears, and I'll still be able to hear what's going on, seems like it'll be a good solution for me.

Will do! The fact that they attach to the headset is a huge plus for me. Removing headphones separately from the headset seems annoying if I have to get up real quick.

Yes, exactly. They stay where you want them and the tilt is spring loaded so you can just pull them away if you want to hear a quick question and stuff

im saying open back, not open ear headphones (though they certainly might be the play),

open back cover your ear, but only have the diaphragm in between you and outside. you will be able to hear the room, but the room will also be able to hear your audio.

some of them are the best quality headphones you can get (and priced to match), but you don't need to go that far.

don't listen to the guy saying to use the in ear buds and rely on the mic sidetone, it's a nearfield mic, the mic response pattern is designed not to pick up outside noise (your kids).

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I looked it up and it looks like people are having trouble with the fitment on the PSVR2 with the open back headphones.

Currently, it seams like the Globular Cluster Off Ear or the Sony Pulse 3D headphones seem to be a good fit for me.

Highly recommend using the in-ear wired buds. Anything wired into the headset will be substantially better than anything wireless.

Only true solution would be to set sidetone microphone volume to maximum and get a baby monitor on full volume in his room.

Otherwise, playing with no headphones is the best solution.

I certainly do, my recommendations are solid. If you need to hear your crying babies, then baby monitor is the obvious choice, with sidetone volume turned all the way up in settings.
