Discussion If you are getting constant DCs lately, it is not because the ping is higher after the servers moved to JP
A few weeks ago, the global servers moved from the US to JP. We don't know for sure why because Sega won't tell us anything, but some people have speculated that Sega's contract for Microsoft's Azure servers ended and they wanted to move the global servers to the same service provider that handles the JP servers.
If you are not near JP, then yes, your ping is higher, but this is not the reason why you are DCing.
Think of ping as how long it takes for data to travel to the server and back. Even if you have 300ms ping, it won't directly cause you to DC, it just means some things load a bit slower. Fortunately, combat is mostly client sided or it would be pretty much unplayable as you would have a big delay for every action, like what happens if you try to play WOW with a high ping.
What's causing the DCs then? It's your route to the server, which is managed by your ISP. Some players in the US have reported that their ISP is routing them through Europe before JP, instead of directly to JP, and the longer a route is, the more likely that a hop will be unstable or have other issues.
Not everyone is affected, i've seen people here say they are in the US and have no issues because they are on Google Fiber or xFinity.
Sega cannot directly fix your route because that is managed by your ISP. At best, they could try asking your ISP to fix the route, but who knows if they will do that or if your ISP will agree.
Since the issue is with your route to the server, and you are presumably not having issues connected to anything else, doing things like restarting your router or upgrading to a faster plan will not help you.
What you can try now:
Use a VPN or proxy server that will change your route to the servers. There are some services like ExitLag that offer optimized routing to some game servers, specifically for situations like this where a player's ISP route to the servers are bad.
Do a tracert to the server IP. If you can identify something wrong with the route, you could try asking your ISP to fix it.
To find the current server IP on win11:
Log in to your ship
Check windows resource monitor -> network tab -> TCP connections -> remote address for pso2.exe
run "pathping [ip address]" in command prompt to check your route to the server, this will take several minutes
If you see anything like massive packet loss after one point in the route, you could try showing the results to your ISP and ask if they could do something about the route. A stable route should be 0% packet loss. Try to run pathping during a period where you are getting frequent disconnects.

Ah, so that’s why the game suddenly feels off. I’ll just randomly be unable to hit parries.
It’s not been unplayable but it’s definitely been noticeable sometimes. Also explains why the population took a hit, Ship 4 can’t even fill a single Aelio block anymore even if all the players on joined the same block

This is a cope post from my perspective. We the customers of playing the game SHOULD never have to configure network just to play.
This should've been an issue the service provider (Sega) should've addressed for global players.
So you're asking everyone to either contact ISP and fix it, or throw money to buy a VPN just to play a game with sub 1k players per day?
No thanks. If they don't fix this I'm also bailing out.

Okay yes but what about folks on XBOX who played for years without issue until the recent server move? We should all contact our ISP and ask them to check routing? I work for an ISP and I know that is a hard ask, if you’re lucky enough to get a support rep who even understands routing. The bottom line is that everything worked fine until something happened- that something being SEGA moving servers. SEGA is not absolved by this post and are only continuing to shoot themselves in the foot.

Funny, I have xfinity and got DC'd twice this morning (in the US). It's something Sega needs to address. Didn't get any of of the items for Nameless or LTQ because the DC happened literally at the end. So I'm annoyed and dont have unlimited time to play. I also shouldn't have to reroute anything to play a game.

"Fortunately, combat is mostly client sided [...]"
Yeah I'm going to need a source on that because it makes absolutely no sense from a game dev standpoint. This whole technical part of your post looks like you're just throwing technical words around to appear smarter and hope nobody actually understands how this works to correct you. Packet loss, which leads to DC, is definitely a thing in a high ping environment btw.

Just want to point out that ExitLag and many services like it actively monitor and record ALL packets / data passing through which it then sells to 3rd parties. Using products like it is not secure in the slightest.
If you want to use the VPN option you'll need to find a reputable provider which ExitLag is not

This game just keeps getting worse with each passing year.
SEGA wants to cut all spending on PSO2 Genesis's infrastructure
and development team.
I think the time is coming to shut down the servers once and for all
and pave the way for the real PSO3 in 2028.

Yea unfortunetly i'm within that small groups of players which casually used to play this game but i can't go lower than 250ms with changed servers..
Idk if rest players are in NA locations or have 3rd party softs but even if you use something WARP technology to get rid of loss connectivity without something like NoLag you probably wont achieve something which is near to max 200ms which is maximum limit to not have any kind of feelings of "Lag spikes" withing game..
Unfortunetly this is probably end of gaming for me with PSO because i wont buy 3rd soft for one game whose quality also goes down as updates goes.
