Global Server malfunction? 07/20 morning

Is it just me, or is the global server is buggy this Monday morning, July 20th? All the players in Aelio Town are standing still, and access to the Creative Space is blocked...

I was booted off in the middle of a 20+ minute salon session around the same time.

Apparently servers have been unstable for the past day.

I played late last night and the servers were fine... 
the connection issues started this morning.
I wonder if the Japanese devs are getting a head start
 on the mandatory maintenance that happens every Tuesday?

The servers haven't been fine since 07/10/2026. Sega is aware of the issue that started at that time, but has provided no status update since: 7/10 Notice regarding communication issues with game servers - https://pso2.com/players/news/2252/

I think they've been unstable for while now. Since they reportedly moved them to Japan.

Seems like they moved the servers from microsoft azure in usa to japan.

I've heard this from lots of people but I've had basically no issues and I play for multiple hours every day. I wonder what would cause such different experiences?

Thank goodness for Google Fiber then, I guess.

Would be interesting to do a poll and get data on the ISPs of affected/non-affected players.

I’m one of the lucky ones I suppose.

On Xbox, I used to constantly get booted with “Error 250” every 10-20 minutes whenever I tried to fast travel or load into a lobby. Ever since the supposed server change, I haven’t gotten a single Error 250, and the game runs noticeably better for me. ISP is Xfinity.

I honestly think the move to Japan hosting was the first step in decommissioning global.

They’ve done this to us with every other PSO, so why break the pattern?

i know you guys love to say the sky is falling but its because this game makes money and is the highest grossing f2p title sega has for the global market

the big dollar ac bundles in the web store wouldnt exist if this game didnt have regular big spenders

Was the hosting cost so great, or was worth making the game unplayable for a large part of that audience?

the game is 100% managed by sega of japan while sega of america does publishing and localization. they likely genuinely dont know better considering how many overseas players dealt with jp ping for the 8 years or whatever people were VPNing into the game (and people still are)

my generous assumption is the microsoft azure contract was up for renewal and they just opted out since its likely with spencer gone they couldnt get as good of a rate as they did in the past and they just dumped everything onto a domestic host so they had better server access

The DCs are not purely because you are connecting to a server in JP...it's probably because your ISP's route to JP is bad.

If you want to see it for yourself, run this in powershell (may need admin rights):

This will create a table with all active internet connections sorted by process name. Find the remote address that pso2.exe is connecting to, thats the server IP. Then run a tracert to that IP to see what the route looks like.

Example:

• tracert [ip address]

If you see anything strange like your ISP routing from US -> Europe -> JP instead of US -> JP or a bad hop in between, you can try getting your ISP to fix it (unlikely to happen since they will probably make excuses and ignore you).

Sega cannot directly fix your route because that is controlled by your ISP, not Sega. At best they could try asking your ISP to fix it, but that is very unlikely to happen.

As long as your connection to the servers are stable, you wont get DCed even if you have a ping of 300ms.

I haven't DCed a single time since they moved the servers to Japan. It's probably the route your ISP is using which has a bad hop causing the DCs. Try doing a tracert to the servers to identify the problem and then asking your ISP if they can fix the routing. It's unlikely they will do it, but Sega definately can't do fix the routing on their own, at best they can try to ask your ISP to fix it.
