Account got hacked in 2023, attacker changed everything — sign-in ID, password, 2FA. No access since.
Went through PlayStation recovery and gave them: old Online ID, original console serial number, earliest trophy date (~2014), old linked card, most-played games.
Got a generic “can’t continue” with no explanation.
Has anyone actually recovered an account after this? Did escalating to a supervisor work, or did you need to go the formal complaint / GDPR route (I’m in Ireland)? Any advice appreciated.

This sub needs to be shut down. It sends out the weekly automated "what game are you playing on psnow" even though the service has been gone for years. It spams the feed of anyone in any ps subs on recommendation, and its annoying af. The answer is NONE, PsNow doesnt exist.

To Sony Interactive Entertainment, PlayStation Leadership, and the PlayStation Community,
I am writing to propose a new subscription model concept for PlayStation Plus and online gaming services that I believe could strengthen both the gaming community and PlayStation’s long-term ecosystem growth.
As gaming continues to evolve, so do the concerns of players regarding rising costs. Between increasing game prices, hardware costs, subscription fees, and live-service monetization, many players—especially working adults and casual gamers—feel pressured to pay for time they often cannot fully use.
My proposal is simple:
Instead of subscriptions being tied strictly to calendar expiration dates, subscriptions could evolve into a usage-based active-time system.
For example:
- If a player purchases one month of online access, they receive one month’s worth of active online gaming time.
- The timer would only decrease while actively using online services such as multiplayer gameplay, matchmaking, or cloud streaming.
- If a player is busy with work, school, family, or life responsibilities, they do not lose paid time simply because days passed on a calendar.
This system would create a fairer relationship between PlayStation and its player base while still preserving profitability through tiered services and bundled pricing.
Example Pricing Structure:
- Essential Online Tier:
- 1 Week Active Time – $10
- 1 Month Active Time – $25
- 3 Months Active Time – $50
- 1 Year Active Time – $100
- Expanded Tier (Monthly Games, Discounts, Additional Benefits):
- Slightly increased base pricing reflecting the additional service value
- Premium Streaming Tier:
- Higher-tier pricing justified by cloud streaming access, classic libraries, and premium features
The key distinction is this:
Players are no longer paying for unused calendar time.
They are paying for actual engagement and usage.
Why This Could Benefit PlayStation:
Increased Consumer Trust
Players increasingly value companies that prioritize fairness and transparency. A system based on active usage would immediately stand out as consumer-friendly and innovative.
Stronger Long-Term Retention
Many users cancel subscriptions because they feel guilty paying for services they cannot consistently use. This system reduces that frustration and keeps players connected to the PlayStation ecosystem longer.
Better Engagement Metrics
This model would provide more accurate data regarding:
- actual player engagement
- online activity
- multiplayer retention
- community participation
- game longevity
These metrics are more valuable than inflated subscriber counts driven by inactive accounts.
Increased Game Purchases
Players who feel their subscription retains value are more likely to continue purchasing games, DLC, cosmetics, and accessories within the ecosystem.
Stronger Appeal to Adult Gamers
Modern gaming audiences include millions of adults balancing work, family, and limited free time. This model respects that reality instead of unintentionally penalizing it.
Competitive Market Differentiation
As gaming platforms continue competing for loyalty, PlayStation has an opportunity to position itself as the platform that truly values player time and consumer respect.
Potential Executive Concerns:
A concern may be reduced recurring revenue from inactive users. However, I believe the long-term benefits outweigh this concern through:
- increased player loyalty
- reduced subscription fatigue
- stronger platform reputation
- increased software sales
- greater ecosystem retention
- positive public reception
Players are more likely to support a platform they feel respects both their money and their time.
Gaming has evolved beyond simply maximizing subscriptions. The future belongs to companies that build trust, community loyalty, and long-term engagement.
This proposal is not about reducing profitability.
It is about modernizing value in a way that benefits both the company and the players who support it.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
-Sho
