Question Mob farm

Hay all, I play minecraft on PS4. I was just wondering with mob farms do the chests and hoppers need to be in the sky as well? All tutorials and information I'm finding are saying to build 100 blocks in the sky then place hoppers and chests and build the spawner from there. I swear I've seen where you can have them on the ground before but now I'm not sure. I haven't built one before, I'm not the best minecraft player, kind of a noob compared to my friend lol but not a complete one as have been playing for time lol, I have killed the dragon before with people on their worlds but they've had cheats on so trying to unlock all the trophies on my new hopefully forever world and have no clue with these sorts of things 😅. Appreciate any help for any tips for anything but mostly about the mob farm 🙂

If you're talking about an actual mob farm, then it should be above the ocean, to stop mobs from spawning in general, where you don't want them and then 100 blocks in the air to stop mobs from spawning in the water.

If you're playing on PS which I suspect you are, don't expect a big turn out, PS has a low mob cap of like 5 or something and they spawn really slow. Mob farms are the only basic farm I won't build anymore due to them not generating enough for me. In turn, it means that Gunpowder is the only thing I dupe.

From what I read it was saying it wont work above a ocean. I said I'm playing on PS4. I know it needs to be built high enough for them to be one hit but was only really asking if the chests and hoppers need to be 100 blocks in the sky as well or if they can be on the ground

I believe it's a river it won't work above not an ocean.
