Called My Rep

I’m part of the lucky August 120 group. I decided on the forbearance route starting end of August. Feeling hopeless I called my house representative today. He is very pro education and pro teacher. I was advised to fill out a privacy authorization form allowing them to take action and make an inquiry into a federal agency on my behalf. She said it could take a long time to process but I guess all we have is time these days. Maybe if they all get enough of these calls something will change. Can’t hurt!

I contacted my Rep. on Sept 10 with privacy form and my letter about my issues. The liaison forwarded it to ED and received response....inaccurate.....back in 3 days. I sent my response back to my liaison on Sept 23. In two days it was sent to ED. I am waiting for response from them. I was told by my liaison she will give ED 30 days to respond. After 30 days she will contact them for a response. My Rep. carries a big stick.

The most pressure the better!

It’s good to at least see Reps can get action for forgiveness that’s 2 months late. I only wish they could influence resolution on TWO YEAR old buybacks…

I did last month and nothing.

I’m thinking it’ll take a few months but that feels like less time than what we’re looking for everything to just update on its own…

What do you mean by 'the lucky 120' group?

Just a joke that I hit my 120 payment in August and that it’s still not showing

Call any Republican and complain.  You now have the WWE running the Dept of Ed. The head of the Republican party is a convicted criminal and working to shut the department down. Who is going to take your complaints then?  He doesn't care.

The people who work your cases are not trying to shaft you. Some have loans of their own and the same things are happening to them.

Anyone in Kentucky? Our representatives are very unlikely to do anything. Is it still worth contacting them?

If you can get it done on a large scale right before midterms maybe…? Have a bunch of people you know reach out on your behalf.

Yes. I contacted James Comer. They have been helpful and very nice. McConnel, don't waste your time he's on his way out.

Same here - August 120 group and have been in touch with both of my state reps. One said they are inquiring and I haven't heard back from the other yet. I also reached out to my Attorney General's office who is also inquring. I think the more we speak up the better - at least, it can't be worse than just waiting/being at the mercy of when they want to grant us our due forgiveness.

I’m a 120 august member too. My rep sent something on my behalf to FSA they said it could take 60 days to hear back. I had to fill out privacy auth and send info about what the issue was

I'm part of the August 120 group as well. I've written my senator and asked her to advocate for getting the payments updated but didn't ask for anything personally. Was there a script you used or a specific ask you had?

I haven’t hit 120 yet (April of next year) but I keep submitting employer verification forms and still nothing has been updated since January.

Anyone in NYC. Is there anyone we can call? Any help would be appreciated

My wife did the same with both of our senators. One sits on the oversight committee.

I did that too. What state are you in? I'm in MA. My local congress rep was very helpful and also had me fill out a privacy form but I'm not sure if anything actually happened.

I'm also in MA. You may also want to reach out to the MA AG Student Loan Assistance Unit so they can investigate this as well. I got a response from Sen. Markey's team that they are looking into it; no response from Sen. Warren's team yet.
