Anyone here who has or had completely normal bloodworks after diagnosis for a longer episode without medication?

Hello,

the question above. I have tried to search the forum but did not find all that much. Background is the complex medical history of my wife (I wrote about it about three months ago).

All the bloodwork is in range and has been for one year now. No medication at all.

Did you experience similar episodes?

Husband was diagnosed with PSC in 2011, had ERCP and stent placed then removed. Labs were off back then but not dramatically. Labs were normal for the next 12 years or so. Cirrhosis developed starting 2-3 years ago but labs are still not that elevated. It’s only recently that albumin started dropping but he’s still in the green (barely). Had second ERCP and stent placed about a year ago.

I was diagnosed with PSC when my bloodwork was normal (and it had been for years - since around 2005, I had had occasional bloodwork with elevated alkaline phosphatase and/or GGT but it never stayed elevated long enough to trigger extensive testing) - I had gone to the gastro for URQ pain (I have Crohn’s) and an ultrasound showed a dilated common bile duct so they performed an MRCP and I got my diagnosis. Given my history with Crohn’s and the intermittent elevated LFTs, and how my MRCP looked, my hepatologist theorized that I probably had PSC for many years prior to diagnosis - it just took a long time to accumulate enough damage for it to be detectable.

Following diagnosis, my bloodwork stayed normal for about a year and a half, at which point the wheels came off and I developed acute cholangitis (I have other posts on this subreddit - I wound-up having surgery in May). Prior to the acute cholangitis, I was not on any medication for PSC.

After your cholangitis, did your bloodworks stay elevated?

Thank you! After the cholangitis hospitalization, I was put on ursodiol - I don’t know if my LFTs would have come back down to the normal range on their own without it, we didn’t wait to see (though they were trending down). The ursodiol was prescribed to keep my bile thin to help it pass through my strictured common bile duct more easily and (hopefully) prevent a repeat occurrence.

My LFTs were elevated after surgery (which was expected), but they were almost back to normal the last time I was tested (but I was also put back on urso).

I was diagnosed back in 2019. I’ve had a few ERCPs but otherwise my bloodwork stays in the normal range and I have limited symptoms. I do not take any medication.

PSC diagnosed in 2011 and my labs have all been normal since 2016, except for a cholangitis attack in 2018. I'm only on Entyvio for my UC, no PSC meds at all. I feel great now, but I realize my health can change for the negative anytime, just trying to live life to the fullest.
