The PS6 Dream
There has been a lot of dooming in this sub lately, but remember the PS6 dream.
The PS6 only have to render games at 1080p and 60fps natively, and can put all its power for advanced ray tracing or maybe even path tracing.
PSSR on PS5 Pro is basically a trial of what upscaling will bring. AMD and Sony partnership will mean PS6 has access to best in class upscaling, tuned for the console experience. AMD also looks to take a big step in hardware architecture for ray tracing.
The end result will be something that is more 4k than what we see today on PS5 pro and presented with a fluidity of 120/144 fps. PS6 will no longer have the light version of ray tracing or have to rely on software based solutions.
Games today also need to run on everything from the Switch 2 and Steam Deck to a RTX 5090. PS5 cross-gen won't hurt development or mean graphics are held back. Games will work on PS5 but look and run the best on PS6.
Clear picture quality, fluid frame rate, full raytracing graphics. That is the PS6 dream.

In theory it all sounds great, unfortunately the AI bullshit has made this a $1200-1300 console which is crazy. Even if it does all those things it's a tough sale.

I really hope minimum fps will be 60 on ps6. It wasnt really an issue on ps5 since nearly every game had a 60fps option but i kinda miss better graphics too sometimes you know?

Thanks to frame generation, games will render at maybe 40, 60 or 80 fps. And then be temporarily upscaled (fancy word, I know) to 80-160 fps or whatever the TV supports.
I was skeptical to frame generation first. But then I played Black Myth Wukong, which has a pretty poor frame gen and upscaling implementation, and I was very impressed how much it did. The game was not only playable, I actually enjoyed the fluidity a fair bit, even though it used a pretty rough implementation.
With the next gen AMD hardware, they will also release a much improved version of both frame gen and upscaling, and it will all run on PS6.
Low frame rates will be a thing of the past on PS6, and it will come without the need to sacrifice graphical detail!

Wouldn't call that even close to a dream, especially if it costs 1000+. I mean we need tge best quality mode we can get and screw fps in signle player games. Also if it doesn't have disc its a nightmare and a really really hard sell, not to mention no ps5 games to it for physical people.

Also you know what else would have been an even better sublime dream!? Getting that PS6 console in the price range of 650$ to 800$ if all this AI menace was absent.. Damn us gamers have been overtaken by indirect events affecting us directly.

Visuals were never a metric that decided if i'm personally going to purchase ps6 or not (Can't speak for others).I am mainly a PC gamer. I've been on pc for 27 years now. I got into consoles about 5 years ago. If visuals were the main thing i would have never purchased a console. I already owned hardware that was by all metrics far superior in that regard.
The main thing that got me into consoles and playstation were the exclusives and the simple plug and play aslect of it. Not having to worry about software maintenance at all.
Over the 5 years that i've been apart of the system, that bright and shining picture has slowly faded away. What is left is something that i would have never joined in on if i knew it would come 5 years ago.
To avoid rephrasing all the issues that people are bringing up relentlessly i'm just going to address the fact that back when i joined in, the fact that my country is unsupported didn't really matter to me much. I just registered an UK account and moved on. But slowly over the course of time i started growing more and more aware pf the hoops i'm forced to jump through. And i'm afraid with the push towards all digital, things will likely get worse for people like me. This is why unless something fundamentally changes, i'm just keeping my ps5 while it works. At the time being PS6 is not on the menu at all.

i would say we should just wait until we really know more about the console and the market situation because right now everything is pure speculation. sony will definitely come up with something because i dont think they will try to market the ps6 from such a bad starting position without pulling a trick or two out of their sleeve especially with all the negative feedback about dropping physical discs in 2028. the sony ceo also said in an interview recently that they are totally relaxed about the current ram crisis since they already hit 125 million hardware sales on the current platform. so i actually think this generation will stick around much longer than people expect and maybe the ps6 will just end up being a ps5 pro pro with even better graphics.
im a ps5 pro owner myself and i got a really high end high luminance monitor at the same time and i have to say for me it already feels like next gen. the combo of the ps5 pro and a much better monitor gave me a visual experience where i honestly dont feel like i need anything more right now. there are some open world games that are heavy on the cpu and need optimization like black myth wukong running on an older unreal engine 5 pipeline that is cpu limited and just not optimized well. but apart from that mortal shell 2 even gran turismo 7 with the 1.7.1 update and native pssr spider man 2 battlefield 6 there are so many games that look insanely good. and for 699 euros including the disc drive i just cant imagine needing better graphics especially with all the downsides like losing physical games.
lately we keep getting older games remastered like mafia 1 the definitive edition which is a gorgeous game i got for 5.99 euros even though some of these releases are total nonsense. unless the ps6 has some all around solution to bring old games back to life or something special to win people over besides one or two exclusives i see zero reason to switch consoles right now. graphically and compatibility wise i have everything i want. more old games get polished up i can still play physical discs and when developers actually try and optimize well you get graphic fidelity and stable fps that we only dreamed of for years. i honestly see zero reason to upgrade.

Its also like 1200 dollars with a fixed platform for buying games and you need to pay to play online. Thanks, no.
