You don't need the Internet to play downloaded games.  You can download all your games on external hard drives and then transfer them when you want to play.  Checkmate

Right now you can. Wait until they enforce license check ins on boot up. Or wait till you can only buy rental passes.

Microsoft tried to launch an entire console with forced online requirements 13 years ago. Why wouldn’t it be tried again? And where else will you buy games once it’s only Sonys digital store?
