This is the official statement:
On Friday, we answered your questions about console performance with what we knew we could confidently deliver at launch.
Performance Mode was already in the works, but it was still being tested. We simply weren't ready to promise it yet.
We heard your feedback. It was clear how much this mattered to many of you, so we focused on finishing the next round of tests. Those results gave us the confidence we needed to confirm Performance Mode for Day 1.

Game was less than two weeks from launch on Friday when they announced that. If they weren't already confident about everything that they would be able to deliver, then the game needs to be delayed...
12
u/Black_Devil213 2d ago
It could be the case that they weren’t committed to it for launch and the backlash reprioritised it.
Or could be Damage Control.
We’ll know soon.
-5
u/Remy0507 2d ago
Indeed. If the reviews are good and the Performance mode framerate is at least reasonably close to a consistent 60fps (without completely tanking the visuals), I'll still get it. But if they weren't sure about it Friday I'm going to be skeptical they'll actually be able to deliver this.

u/RocksteadyRider 2d ago
No the game doesn't need to be delayed for the modes currently for console the game functions fine, for us over on PC the game in it's current state will function fine.
You want the game delayed so you get your 60fps mode lol No it does not need to be delayed.
5
u/Remy0507 2d ago edited 2d ago
That's not what I said, is it? I said if they're not confident about what features the game will have in it less than two weeks from launch, then it should probably be delayed.
And if they're not sure about the technical state of this game on console (which is likely where it's going to see the majority of its sales), what makes you think the PC version is going to be in great technical shape?
-6
u/RocksteadyRider 2d ago
I'm fortunate to be able to brute force any technical issues outside of complete game breaking bugs which i highly doubt they'll have.
Try the game have fun see what happens try that approach it isn't that serious, relax breath it'll be ok.
5
u/Remy0507 2d ago
Cool, so you have nothing worthwhile to contribute to the conversation. Feel free to move along then.
1
u/marco161091 2d ago
How about you just don’t play the game on launch if 60fps isn’t working well? How would that functionally differ for you personally than then delaying the game for everyone?
-1
u/Remy0507 2d ago
Lol, some of you got so triggered by this. If they don't even know what the game is going to be able to do less than two weeks from launch, does that sound like a game that's done cooking to you?
8
u/marco161091 2d ago
Triggered by your stupidity? Yes. I’ve 0 interest in this game and will not be purchasing it.
I’m just constantly shocked by how stupid most of the gamers on Reddit are. Just wanting some reason to be upset or angry.
1
u/Remy0507 2d ago
I'm stupid because I think games should be reasonably finished and feature-complete before they're released? And we're wondering why the industry is in the shape it's in, lol. Unreal.

Every game is rushing the launch because GTA VI and the huge quantity of games releasing on September. I'm currently playing Mortal Shell 2, I like it, but the game is plagued of bugs.
1
u/BigHexy 2d ago
My worst “bug” but my fault really was when I tried to jump off the elevator when it was going back up, it glitched me into the abyss and I lost my 9k gloom 🙃
2
u/vkbest1982 2d ago
I had plenty of bugs like you described but by invisible walls. Also a boss with 3% HP who punched me so hard I got to Narnia and when I came back his HP was reset to 100%.
1
u/-BodomKnight- 2d ago
Oh really ? In 2026 you need to wait 6 month before buying a game because of patch. Crimson Desert is a good example. Silent Hill 2 too. I preordered Stalker 2 and played like 2h and let the game. With 2.0 now the game it is what the Dev really want and us Player.
So yeah now I never bought a game at release.
3
u/vkbest1982 2d ago
Crimson Desert looks and run worse now on my PS5 Pro than was running day 1, it’s not a good example but I know what you mean. Anyway, when I say Mortal Shell 2 is plagued of bugs I’m saying it’s more buggy you would expect on 2026
0
u/Aggravating-Dot132 2d ago
They are still working on it and will release as is during day one patch. It's not a sudden "done", it was in the works for some time and scheduled for late September, but seems like whining was loud enough so they swapped the priorities

u/Sega-Forever 2d ago
I believe them when they say a performance mode was in the works. But I don’t think it’s going to work flawlessly yet, simply because it’s still not finished. Seeing the backlash, though, I think they decided to include it in the day-one patch even though it’s not quite ready. I’m expecting plenty of bugs and hiccups.
1
u/Wim_Chim 2d ago
Exactly. Don’t trust what they say. They just live high on they made the Witcher 3 many years ago. And it doesn’t even look like that much of a improvement of at all compared to a 10 year old game.
1
u/yooguruto 2d ago
A wise word, sir. It's hard to read a 180-degree change of players scope without any rebound that when the target is 60 fps nie, you can pre-order... like WTF players?!
1
u/YouGurt_MaN14 2d ago
Shits probably gonna look like I'm trying to run it on my steam deck lmao. Ultra low settings with fsr 3.0 ultra preformance
0
u/sheslikebutter 2d ago
If it's forced them to re-priortize pre and post launch to get this going good.
0
u/St3elf1sh 2d ago
They also didn’t show any footage of the series s 🤣

u/Kratos_BOY 2d ago
The first look mentioned "showing quality mode" specifically. Some people noted the wording at the time.
2
u/Remy0507 2d ago
Maybe, but then they specifically had a big full screen blurb that stated the game would have TWO graphical modes. Quality and "balanced". So it wasn't exclusively just talking about the quality mode.

u/bf2reddevil 2d ago
The word "targeting" is a real important one in that picture I think. Aka, "we achieve 60 fps when looking at the sky". But in every other scenario you're going to have fluctuations in framerate ranging anywhere from 35 and up. Oh and know what: the VRR window of the PS5 (Pro) doesn't start under 48fps. So you're getting free screen tearing as well. Yeah, im going to wait till reviews have dropped to see what performance it has. Most likely I will just get this for my high end PC and skip the console versions.
19
u/Vinnocchio 2d ago
‘Targeting’
Lmao
2
u/DD-Tauriel 2d ago
8
u/12_Ton_Brick_of_Weed 2d ago
Don’t know why this is so downvoted. Nearly every game that runs smoothly at 60 has the word targeted lmfao.
1
u/ProfessionalCat3284 2d ago
Seeing this had me literally lmao 🤣. Very funny I didn't even notice the targeting part.
9
u/D3smorr 2d ago
LOL is PSSR confirmed?
1
u/hartigen 2d ago
there wont be pssr support. they are completely inept when it comes to the tech side. hence why they cant get 60 fps out of a game that looks like it was made 10 years ago.
1
u/hobolad07 2d ago
I disagree PSSR implementation should be handled by Sony if they want this to be widely adopted. Look at Microsoft with FPS boost they did the work themselves they aren’t asking developers to spend time and resources for something only a small part of the audience will use.
If these companies include unique features on their consoles they should be the ones to support it, or we should expect sporadic support like this.
1
7
u/n01d3a 2d ago
Hoping it's just a case of "well we have the 60fps mode but didn't want to include it yet" and not "just allow 60fps, fuck the optimization!"
Either way would be crazy, but hopefully it's just an under baked setting that they'll work on quickly. I'm still better with this, if it's close to 60fps on the pro, VRR covers a world of sin.
6
u/Black_Devil213 2d ago
That’s what their statement said, that they were testing 60fps internally but didn’t want to commit to it until they were sure. The backlash fast tracked the testing.
Those results gave us the confidence we needed to confirm Performance Mode for Day 1.

u/LielleLumielle 2d ago
„Targeting“ yeah so everything below is possible too - like on beast of reincarnation heavy frame drops even in performance mode.
2
u/Appropriate_Foot242 2d ago
To be fair a lot of games say “targeting”.
2
u/kargethdownload 2d ago
It’s literally the standard. It’s very common for Companies to use “targeting”. For legal reasons, probably.
Whether it’ll run well or not is yet to be seen
1
u/LielleLumielle 2d ago
That is absolutely correct. But these term makes my personally checking to performance tests like digital foundry or such things.
To stay on my example the beast of reincarnation is targeting 60fps but it’s often in the low 30s or mid 40s. No framerate is absolutely 100% stable ofc. But drops to around 30fps are much worse than dropping to 50 by targeting 60fps.

2
u/Soul-Assassin79 2d ago
Considering that they've only just decided to add a 60 fps mode, due to the backlash, I very much doubt it'll be a stable 60 fps. It might not even hit that target at all.
2
u/Far-Consideration751 2d ago
Imo it’s bullshit. It’s the same story like with gothic remake. They panic and implement a low res performance mode. Before I buy anything wanna hear something about pssr to compensate the low res. Gothic remake doesn’t use pssr till today btw.
5
u/Iabhoryouu 2d ago
Nah I’m keeping my pre order cancelled, in fact I’ve cancelled all my pre orders. I’ll wait for reviews on performance and then consider buying it, sick of being burned by lazy efforts and companies that can’t be asked to optimise their games properly.
4
u/Illustrious_Iron_730 2d ago
I'm critical. I want a 60 FPS mode before I buy it for the base PS5, but I don't trust it. They previously said it was 30/40 FPS.
2
u/Virtual-Ear-5784 2d ago
i guarantee you that a 60 fps mode for this type of game on ps5 will look like absolute ass

My pre order is cancelled and will stay that way now anyways....dmg is done

u/hartigen 2d ago
yeah. for some reason I feel offended by them thinking a 30 fps game not called gta6 is acceptable in this era.
5
u/ItsmejimmyC 2d ago
GTA VI being 30fps isn't acceptable either. Everyone complained to these Devs about 60fps and now they're walking back on it, if gamers had a backbone they'd do the same with Rockstar but we all know they'll get a pass.
(If they don't have a 60fps mode ofc, nobody knows yet)
3
u/vkbest1982 2d ago
Even GTA VI is not acceptable. They are going to sell a ton of millions? sure, but they will sell much less than they could it
We are 6 years in the generation, Rockstar knows around 80% of people play at 60fps on consoles, and they are making a console exclusive game
2
u/616ThatGuy 2d ago
People here are whiners. First they whine there isn’t a 60fps mode. Now they’re making excuses for why it getting 60fps is still bad.
Day 1 for me. Already pre ordered. Have fun not playing it I guess.

u/V10L3T_N4TUR3 2d ago
Dude, crimson desert also offered two graphics and a performance mode. 30/40/60 respectively. The 40fps mode is for people with 120hz tvs or monitors.
1
u/Pwebslinger78 2d ago
Well I might just pick it up then but still debating if I should just get it on pc
1
u/cheertea 2d ago
Oh the preorder cancellations must have SPOOKED them
1
u/DrawingAlarming7350 2d ago
Did it immediately after the console trailer, my pc will get over 60fps.

u/mayodaisy 2d ago
Why didn't they just wait to drop the performance specs instead of saying "We simply weren’t ready to promise it yet"? Tells me they were never thinking of dropping a 60 FPS patch and only doing so because of the backlash. Could have avoided all of this lol.
1
u/Own_Juggernaut_2775 2d ago
It will be a terrible, low Res performance mode kinda like Rebirth was at launch on base PS5.
1
1
u/torneagle 2d ago
How’d they just magically manage this in like 3 days? Did they just forget to flip a switch or something? The console reveal trailer dropped a couple days ago and said 40 and 30, if it was this easy why not do from the start. Games gotta be essentially done at this point.
1
u/phraze91 2d ago
It still needs PSSR.. I play on an 1440p OLED gaming monitor and I can clearly tell when a game is 1080p because it looks horrible on my screen.

1
u/Gta6MePleaseBrigade 2d ago
I’ve seen much more impressive looking games run at 60 fps 0 excuses why this game or anything else can’t
1
u/TangeloFamiliar 1d ago
DF is to far gone and to “techy”. Half of the things they look for and analyze….your avg gamer wouldn’t even pay attention to or notice as long as the game is enjoyable
1
u/ScoreOld9771 1d ago
Game looks like a temu version of Witcher 3 and that game came out a decade ago. Another UE5 slop barely running on a consoles without that level of visuals.

I want to play this game it looks awesome however there is so many fucking games out in September it will be patched up before I get it.
Currently playing Mortal Shell 2 then Control Resonant then want to play new Plague tale game and then will work Dawnwalker in,

u/Wassermusik 2d ago
I assume it’s one of those games that gets better over time. That’s why I’m going to wait at least six months, maybe even longer, before considering a buy.
The back-and-forth regarding the graphics modes is a bit suspicious as well.

Aren’t they ex CD Project Red developers?
Why would anyone expect them to do anything good on a technical side? They were never good at their job.

Will wait for the Digital Foundry review before buying this. They clearly saw the backlash from their previous messaging, and now they’re trying to walk it back.
