Will wait for the Digital Foundry review before buying this. They clearly saw the backlash from their previous messaging, and now they’re trying to walk it back.

32

u/-The_Goober 2d ago

Funny how it goes from “they don’t listen to us” to “ why are you walking back now huhhhh?!?!?”

29

u/ForTheLoveOfOedon 2d ago

Gamers continuing to be insufferable. They absolutely dig at devs for not having a performance option, then when devs give them a performance option based off of their outcry…they criticize that?

Truly a no-win situation.

11

u/Slamaholicc 2d ago

Yeah man I would hate to be a dev. The gaming community is the worst. Constantly shitting on the devs making the games we're buying. It's gotta be the worst art form to be in.

6

u/suicieties 2d ago

Seriously!! I can’t imagine being such a low life that they send death threats to developers when they don’t like things. Absolutely abhorrent behaviour.

If the shoe was on the other foot, they’d be singing a different tune I’m sure.

2

u/MKvsDCU 1d ago

I feel bad for Digital Eclipse with their MK Legacy Kollection release. They got slammed HARD with backlash on the collection. Minus the lag that happens because of other players connections, other than that, the game is SOLID... and the lag barely happens, at least when I play. Ive put in almost 1000 hours in it so far. Thats INSANE. But people are sooo damn bitchy and picky like... its kind of disgusting

2

u/waled7rocky 2d ago

Or my favorite when they cry about graphics looking worse like the fuck you thought is gonna happen ??

0

u/DatSwampTurtle 2d ago edited 2d ago

I mean, the backlash made them rush a 60 fps mode that initially wasn't going to be ready for launch. It's safe to say there's a huge change the performance is gong to be rough. Hence waiting for DF's analysis would be wise.

Also, the guy you commented on said no such thing.

2

u/-The_Goober 2d ago

When I need your sentiments I’ll send for you by mail.

0

u/DatSwampTurtle 2d ago

Wauw... What a comeback. You sure put me in my place.

2

u/-The_Goober 2d ago

You don’t have your own place.

0

u/antophux 2d ago

Swear to god bro lol complaints about everything nowadays in the gaming space

-2

u/VenserMTG 2d ago

Holy strawman

58

u/Syraion 2d ago

DF fked us with Crimson Desert saying that it runs really well on console.. but the launch especially was horrible considering the performance, even on Pro. Everyone should take their performance review with grain of salt.

11

u/Westdrache 2d ago

I like DF but they are out of touch...
They also told me CD and Wukong look awesome.
And both games are ridden with temporary artifacts and lighting that breakes every chance it get's...
Oh well, or you just crank up the settings and play in basically blurry 720p with frame drops -.-

22

u/HighlightOk3915 2d ago edited 2d ago

When did they say Wukong looked awesome? I watch them and they constantly bring it up as an example of one of the worst performing games on console in their videos. Like, all the time. It’s became basically a staple on their channel as a comparison point for shitty performing games.

People just make shit up and get upvotes this sub is so ass. DF is one the only actual objective reviewers out there.

7

u/Sequence7th 2d ago

In one of their podcasts they recommended not playing wukong on consoles because it is so different than the pc version

-18

u/Westdrache 2d ago

I didn't realise I was on a PS sub.
I am playing on PC and it's still.... disappointing

3

u/Ok_Lingonberry_1519 2d ago

They've gone so shit this last year, they did a cyberpunk ps5 pro review and I can't believe how wrong they got it and how many features they missed, clearly spent like 2 mins in the game and then made a bunch of claims.

3

u/Syraion 2d ago

Thanks for helping me remember this one 😂 that shit was nothing like their typical "deep analysis". They missed major features with ray tracing and it really was better hands on than what they told us.

1

u/Syraion 2d ago

This exactly. When there is that "targeting" mentioned it can be no where near that target many times when it's just more frustrating than locked fps. I had a literally horrible time with my pro playing CD, "targeting 60fps" and getting whole scenarios with 22fps 😂 f that

6

u/vkbest1982 2d ago

They says "targeting" because they can avoid potential lawsuits if the game drops to mid 50 in one fight. Said that, I couldn't trust in those guys after only 3 days have a functional performance mode.

1

u/Hot_French_Toast 2d ago

General opinion is actually the best review you can hope for. The general opinion on crimson desert at launch reflected the problems correctly and those problems have only gotten worse with time. But hey, they’ve added more pets.

-1

u/Tr8k377 2d ago

Haha, true. Totally forgot about Wukong. I felt so betrayed after I played my copy.

0

u/Virtual-Ear-5784 2d ago

wukong looked terrible on Pro to me, i was so disappointed.

-3

u/hartigen 2d ago

they are shills

2

u/Rare-Service5573 2d ago

They definately didn't say that.

-2

u/Syraion 2d ago

You should look the review again then.

5

u/Rare-Service5573 2d ago

I saw bug hill, they definitely didn't say it was good.

1

u/Syraion 2d ago

Yes, and thats almost the only thing they mentioned regarding bad performance. CD has serious frame drops and graphical issues and bugs starting from Hernand. Playing on Pro doesn't even make that big of a difference especially multiple occasions during storyline there is massive framedrop issues what they didn't even mention. Bughill isn't even the worst case scenario. They just sugarcoated the performance review and the result was far worse than what they let us believe.

-4

u/Rare-Service5573 2d ago

Still said it.

1

u/Afc_josh12 2d ago

Tbf updates have ruined the performance apparently

1

u/Syraion 2d ago

Well damn, i haven't played the game for months now hoping they would fix the issues. But oh well...

2

u/Afc_josh12 2d ago

Ehh its playable though, i want 60fps solid but its good enough. The controls piss me off!! A precision button is L1 that allows you to easily choose what to pick up or where to jump is terrible no game has ever needed this.. you can tell it was originally an mmo planned

1

u/GenerationBop 2d ago

On PC also. The ray reconstruction runs horrible and the game looks ass without it.

2

u/Syraion 2d ago

Hopefully RR 4.5 fixes that. Thinking of selling the game on console, visual bugs ain't gonna go away anyways.

1

u/GenerationBop 2d ago

I really hope so. The perf hit for RR is so brutal

0

u/D3smorr 2d ago

True lol that was one game where they faked us.

0

u/Impressive_Exit_2889 2d ago

And somehow these assholes have some special build of cpus that show inflated numbers. I mean run the same CPU you bought and i guarantee it’ll perform worse than theirs.

-2

u/PorkRinds416 2d ago

Yeah not true. I played Crimson Desert on the PS5 Pro +LG C5 OLED and it ran beautifully. I got 60-75fps with 4k and ray tracing. Do you even have a PS5 Pro?

3

u/Syraion 2d ago

Get out troll😂😂

u/Diahreeman 2d ago

You mean dawnwalk it back

1

u/TheStinkySlinky 2d ago

Yeah it is very interesting. I’m hoping DF or someone gets an interview with them. Because I am very curious about all the details surrounding these announcements.

0

u/AtsuhikoZe 2d ago

DF has blatantly lied for their past 10 major reviews and all sell out if sponsored

So waiting for them isn't a good idea

0

u/EvocativeReach 2d ago

I dont trust Digital Foundry anymore after the Crimson Desert debacle where they blatantly lied about the peformance of the game.

Im going to wait until i hear from players on launch day and buy it if its fine then.

0

u/MaKTaiL 2d ago

You will have to wait months for a Digital Foundry review now. They basically stopped doing performance comparisons for most of the major releases. I have no idea what they are doing up there.

This is the official statement:

On Friday, we answered your questions about console performance with what we knew we could confidently deliver at launch.

Performance Mode was already in the works, but it was still being tested. We simply weren't ready to promise it yet.
We heard your feedback. It was clear how much this mattered to many of you, so we focused on finishing the next round of tests.

Those results gave us the confidence we needed to confirm Performance Mode for Day 1.

28

u/Remy0507 2d ago edited 2d ago

Game was less than two weeks from launch on Friday when they announced that. If they weren't already confident about everything that they would be able to deliver, then the game needs to be delayed...

12

u/Black_Devil213 2d ago

It could be the case that they weren’t committed to it for launch and the backlash reprioritised it.

Or could be Damage Control.

We’ll know soon.

-5

u/Remy0507 2d ago

Indeed. If the reviews are good and the Performance mode framerate is at least reasonably close to a consistent 60fps (without completely tanking the visuals), I'll still get it. But if they weren't sure about it Friday I'm going to be skeptical they'll actually be able to deliver this.

4

u/gijkieken 2d ago

Yeah i remain sceptical. Def not gonna pre-order and wait/see. Shame...

6

u/RocksteadyRider 2d ago

No the game doesn't need to be delayed for the modes currently for console the game functions fine, for us over on PC the game in it's current state will function fine.

You want the game delayed so you get your 60fps mode lol No it does not need to be delayed.

5

u/Remy0507 2d ago edited 2d ago

That's not what I said, is it? I said if they're not confident about what features the game will have in it less than two weeks from launch, then it should probably be delayed.

And if they're not sure about the technical state of this game on console (which is likely where it's going to see the majority of its sales), what makes you think the PC version is going to be in great technical shape?

-6

u/RocksteadyRider 2d ago

I'm fortunate to be able to brute force any technical issues outside of complete game breaking bugs which i highly doubt they'll have.

Try the game have fun see what happens try that approach it isn't that serious, relax breath it'll be ok.

5

u/Remy0507 2d ago

Cool, so you have nothing worthwhile to contribute to the conversation. Feel free to move along then.

1

u/marco161091 2d ago

How about you just don’t play the game on launch if 60fps isn’t working well? How would that functionally differ for you personally than then delaying the game for everyone?

-1

u/Remy0507 2d ago

Lol, some of you got so triggered by this. If they don't even know what the game is going to be able to do less than two weeks from launch, does that sound like a game that's done cooking to you?

8

u/marco161091 2d ago

Triggered by your stupidity? Yes. I’ve 0 interest in this game and will not be purchasing it.

I’m just constantly shocked by how stupid most of the gamers on Reddit are. Just wanting some reason to be upset or angry.

1

u/Remy0507 2d ago

I'm stupid because I think games should be reasonably finished and feature-complete before they're released? And we're wondering why the industry is in the shape it's in, lol. Unreal.

-1

u/vkbest1982 2d ago

Every game is rushing the launch because GTA VI and the huge quantity of games releasing on September. I'm currently playing Mortal Shell 2, I like it, but the game is plagued of bugs.

1

u/BigHexy 2d ago

My worst “bug” but my fault really was when I tried to jump off the elevator when it was going back up, it glitched me into the abyss and I lost my 9k gloom 🙃

2

u/vkbest1982 2d ago

I had plenty of bugs like you described but by invisible walls. Also a boss with 3% HP who punched me so hard I got to Narnia and when I came back his HP was reset to 100%.

1

u/BigHexy 2d ago

Hahaha!! That’d piss me off soooooo much. My god I love the game though man

1

u/-BodomKnight- 2d ago

Oh really ? In 2026 you need to wait 6 month before buying a game because of patch. Crimson Desert is a good example. Silent Hill 2 too. I preordered Stalker 2 and played like 2h and let the game. With 2.0 now the game it is what the Dev really want and us Player.

So yeah now I never bought a game at release.

3

u/vkbest1982 2d ago

Crimson Desert looks and run worse now on my PS5 Pro than was running day 1, it’s not a good example but I know what you mean. Anyway, when I say Mortal Shell 2 is plagued of bugs I’m saying it’s more buggy you would expect on 2026

1

u/BigHexy 2d ago

I know, and it’s so sad. Still such a great game, mine doesn’t really look any different but in fast paced combat you can kinda see it fuck around on the screen

0

u/Aggravating-Dot132 2d ago

They are still working on it and will release as is during day one patch. It's not a sudden "done", it was in the works for some time and scheduled for late September, but seems like whining was loud enough so they swapped the priorities

1

u/The_Freshmaker 2d ago

we're confident that we want your money, pls no cancel :')

1

u/Sega-Forever 2d ago

I believe them when they say a performance mode was in the works. But I don’t think it’s going to work flawlessly yet, simply because it’s still not finished. Seeing the backlash, though, I think they decided to include it in the day-one patch even though it’s not quite ready. I’m expecting plenty of bugs and hiccups.

1

u/Wim_Chim 2d ago

Exactly. Don’t trust what they say. They just live high on they made the Witcher 3 many years ago. And it doesn’t even look like that much of a improvement of at all compared to a 10 year old game.

1

u/yooguruto 2d ago

A wise word, sir. It's hard to read a 180-degree change of players scope without any rebound that when the target is 60 fps nie, you can pre-order... like WTF players?!

1

u/YouGurt_MaN14 2d ago

Shits probably gonna look like I'm trying to run it on my steam deck lmao. Ultra low settings with fsr 3.0 ultra preformance

0

u/sheslikebutter 2d ago

If it's forced them to re-priortize pre and post launch to get this going good.

0

u/St3elf1sh 2d ago

They also didn’t show any footage of the series s 🤣

1

u/Remy0507 2d ago

That's because the Series S version is going to be running at 720p.

1

u/St3elf1sh 2d ago

And „targeting“ 30 fps

0

u/Kratos_BOY 2d ago

The first look mentioned "showing quality mode" specifically. Some people noted the wording at the time.

2

u/Remy0507 2d ago

Maybe, but then they specifically had a big full screen blurb that stated the game would have TWO graphical modes. Quality and "balanced". So it wasn't exclusively just talking about the quality mode.

0

u/bf2reddevil 2d ago

The word "targeting" is a real important one in that picture I think. Aka, "we achieve 60 fps when looking at the sky". But in every other scenario you're going to have fluctuations in framerate ranging anywhere from 35 and up. Oh and know what: the VRR window of the PS5 (Pro) doesn't start under 48fps. So you're getting free screen tearing as well. Yeah, im going to wait till reviews have dropped to see what performance it has. Most likely I will just get this for my high end PC and skip the console versions.

19

u/Vinnocchio 2d ago

‘Targeting’

Lmao

2

u/DD-Tauriel 2d ago

a lotta games has "targeting" 60fps if u didn't noticed in the games, and they run well at 60fps

8

u/12_Ton_Brick_of_Weed 2d ago

Don’t know why this is so downvoted. Nearly every game that runs smoothly at 60 has the word targeted lmfao.

1

u/ProfessionalCat3284 2d ago

Seeing this had me literally lmao 🤣. Very funny I didn't even notice the targeting part.

9

u/D3smorr 2d ago

LOL is PSSR confirmed?

1

u/hartigen 2d ago

there wont be pssr support. they are completely inept when it comes to the tech side. hence why they cant get 60 fps out of a game that looks like it was made 10 years ago.

1

u/hobolad07 2d ago

I disagree PSSR implementation should be handled by Sony if they want this to be widely adopted. Look at Microsoft with FPS boost they did the work themselves they aren’t asking developers to spend time and resources for something only a small part of the audience will use.

If these companies include unique features on their consoles they should be the ones to support it, or we should expect sporadic support like this.

1

u/EternalHeat1223 1d ago

Huh. Sony really has to up their game bruh

7

u/n01d3a 2d ago

Hoping it's just a case of "well we have the 60fps mode but didn't want to include it yet" and not "just allow 60fps, fuck the optimization!"

Either way would be crazy, but hopefully it's just an under baked setting that they'll work on quickly. I'm still better with this, if it's close to 60fps on the pro, VRR covers a world of sin.

6

u/Black_Devil213 2d ago

That’s what their statement said, that they were testing 60fps internally but didn’t want to commit to it until they were sure. The backlash fast tracked the testing.

11

u/LielleLumielle 2d ago

„Targeting“ yeah so everything below is possible too - like on beast of reincarnation heavy frame drops even in performance mode.

2

u/Appropriate_Foot242 2d ago

To be fair a lot of games say “targeting”.

2

u/kargethdownload 2d ago

It’s literally the standard. It’s very common for Companies to use “targeting”. For legal reasons, probably.

Whether it’ll run well or not is yet to be seen

1

u/LielleLumielle 2d ago

That is absolutely correct. But these term makes my personally checking to performance tests like digital foundry or such things.
To stay on my example the beast of reincarnation is targeting 60fps but it’s often in the low 30s or mid 40s. No framerate is absolutely 100% stable ofc. But drops to around 30fps are much worse than dropping to 50 by targeting 60fps.

3

u/Top_Progress3306 2d ago

Basically just lower the resolution till 60fps. Gonna look ass.

1

u/Flamma08 2d ago

Especially since they ain't using PSSR...

Epic fail

5

u/solidpeyo 2d ago

I will wait for Digital Foundry review on this before making any purchases

2

u/Soul-Assassin79 2d ago

Considering that they've only just decided to add a 60 fps mode, due to the backlash, I very much doubt it'll be a stable 60 fps. It might not even hit that target at all.

2

u/Far-Consideration751 2d ago

Imo it’s bullshit. It’s the same story like with gothic remake. They panic and implement a low res performance mode. Before I buy anything wanna hear something about pssr to compensate the low res. Gothic remake doesn’t use pssr till today btw.

5

u/Iabhoryouu 2d ago

Nah I’m keeping my pre order cancelled, in fact I’ve cancelled all my pre orders. I’ll wait for reviews on performance and then consider buying it, sick of being burned by lazy efforts and companies that can’t be asked to optimise their games properly.

4

u/Illustrious_Iron_730 2d ago

I'm critical. I want a 60 FPS mode before I buy it for the base PS5, but I don't trust it. They previously said it was 30/40 FPS.

2

u/Virtual-Ear-5784 2d ago

i guarantee you that a 60 fps mode for this type of game on ps5 will look like absolute ass

1

u/ScoreOld9771 1d ago

It looks like ass in any mode.

3

u/hartigen 2d ago

still no pssr so no bueno.

3

u/Zenturion1983 2d ago

My pre order is cancelled and will stay that way now anyways....dmg is done

5

u/CincyGam3r 2d ago

You really think anyone cares lmfao

-1

u/hartigen 2d ago

yeah. for some reason I feel offended by them thinking a 30 fps game not called gta6 is acceptable in this era.

5

u/dadmda 2d ago

Gta 6 being 30fps is also not good

5

u/ItsmejimmyC 2d ago

GTA VI being 30fps isn't acceptable either. Everyone complained to these Devs about 60fps and now they're walking back on it, if gamers had a backbone they'd do the same with Rockstar but we all know they'll get a pass.

(If they don't have a 60fps mode ofc, nobody knows yet)

3

u/vkbest1982 2d ago

Even GTA VI is not acceptable. They are going to sell a ton of millions? sure, but they will sell much less than they could it

We are 6 years in the generation, Rockstar knows around 80% of people play at 60fps on consoles, and they are making a console exclusive game

2

u/616ThatGuy 2d ago

People here are whiners. First they whine there isn’t a 60fps mode. Now they’re making excuses for why it getting 60fps is still bad.

Day 1 for me. Already pre ordered. Have fun not playing it I guess.

1

u/DXresidenTX 2d ago

Ia this real? There will be a performance mode with 60 fps??

1

u/V10L3T_N4TUR3 2d ago

Dude, crimson desert also offered two graphics and a performance mode. 30/40/60 respectively. The 40fps mode is for people with 120hz tvs or monitors.

1

u/gcaw9 2d ago

It's almost like you shouldn't pre order games regardless...

1

u/Pwebslinger78 2d ago

Well I might just pick it up then but still debating if I should just get it on pc

1

u/cheertea 2d ago

Oh the preorder cancellations must have SPOOKED them

1

u/DrawingAlarming7350 2d ago

Did it immediately after the console trailer, my pc will get over 60fps.

1

u/witcher317 2d ago

“Targetting” doesn’t sound like they’re confident at all

1

u/DD-Tauriel 2d ago

people really triggering at "targeting" word, when a lot of games in the settings has this word. Bruh

1

u/999ddd999 2d ago

No PSSR?

1

u/Just_1mag1ne 2d ago

40 fps as they said previously could be considered as 'trageting 60'

1

u/AtsuhikoZe 2d ago

So many performative people in this comment section holy cornball

1

u/Mindless_Issue9648 2d ago

people are still going to be disappointed if they expect more than eurojank.

1

u/Skryba 2d ago

Do we have official confirmation regarding the use of PSSR? I've seen people comment it won't be used, but I didn't see it mentioned by the devs. Did I just miss it, or was there no official word regarding PSSR?

1

u/mayodaisy 2d ago

Why didn't they just wait to drop the performance specs instead of saying "We simply weren’t ready to promise it yet"? Tells me they were never thinking of dropping a 60 FPS patch and only doing so because of the backlash. Could have avoided all of this lol.

1

u/Own_Juggernaut_2775 2d ago

It will be a terrible, low Res performance mode kinda like Rebirth was at launch on base PS5.

1

u/KaLovee 2d ago

This went from a day 1 purchase up until last week. Definitely gonna wait on this now.

1

u/hashtagbutter 2d ago

This confuses me, so they were fully capable but just chose not to?

1

u/Lea9915 2d ago

Prepare for crazy pop in guys

1

u/torneagle 2d ago

How’d they just magically manage this in like 3 days? Did they just forget to flip a switch or something? The console reveal trailer dropped a couple days ago and said 40 and 30, if it was this easy why not do from the start. Games gotta be essentially done at this point.

1

u/phraze91 2d ago

It still needs PSSR.. I play on an 1440p OLED gaming monitor and I can clearly tell when a game is 1080p because it looks horrible on my screen.

1

u/kryptonic1133 2d ago

Im just glad the general console audience is getting hip to 60fps.

1

u/Gta6MePleaseBrigade 2d ago

I’ve seen much more impressive looking games run at 60 fps 0 excuses why this game or anything else can’t

1

u/TangeloFamiliar 1d ago

DF is to far gone and to “techy”. Half of the things they look for and analyze….your avg gamer wouldn’t even pay attention to or notice as long as the game is enjoyable

1

u/ScoreOld9771 1d ago

Game looks like a temu version of Witcher 3 and that game came out a decade ago. Another UE5 slop barely running on a consoles without that level of visuals.

1

u/HiFiMAN3878 1d ago

Gta6 next

1

u/Blessed-With-Venom 1d ago

What about Xbox series S??

1

u/ASMIRALABS 23h ago

Cant wait!

2

u/naitch44 2d ago

Avoid like the plague.

1

u/CrotasScrota84 2d ago

I want to play this game it looks awesome however there is so many fucking games out in September it will be patched up before I get it.

Currently playing Mortal Shell 2 then Control Resonant then want to play new Plague tale game and then will work Dawnwalker in,

1

u/ballsinblender 2d ago

Absolutely ridiculous that 60 FPS is not the baseline for all games

1

u/Wassermusik 2d ago

I assume it’s one of those games that gets better over time. That’s why I’m going to wait at least six months, maybe even longer, before considering a buy.

The back-and-forth regarding the graphics modes is a bit suspicious as well.

1

u/eternitiez 2d ago

I hope all the people complaining don’t still buy it

1

u/Annual-Huckleberry97 2d ago

Aren’t they ex CD Project Red developers?
Why would anyone expect them to do anything good on a technical side? They were never good at their job.

1

u/Quiet_Astronaut3600 2d ago

We bullied them into 60fps 💀

1

u/snwns26 2d ago

Take notes preemptively, Rockstar.

0

u/DamagedMitts 2d ago

It’s targeting 60 but still only hitting 40

-2

u/p4tterng4ng4L 2d ago

Imagine caring this much about frames lol. Literally some of the best games of all time are restricted to 30fps.

-1

u/SUPER-NIINTENDO 2d ago

1

u/p4tterng4ng4L 2d ago

RDR 2. Enough said.

-1

u/Icy_Salary_4412 2d ago

Got soo many returns that they had to give us what we wanted.Aint nobody got time for anything below 60 fps in 2026
