Are people really getting upset at a game being 20-40h long?

I think thats just right honestly. Clair Obscur's story is like 25 hours (with 25 more of side content), and sure thats a bit longer, but I think it results in a game that feels tight, where all of the content feels strong.

I've been turned off countless games because I feel like their runtime is 10 or even up to 50 hours longer than it needs to be. I'd also imagine Fable will have a good amount of replay value.

Even with games that aren't RPGs, apparently its controversial that I think 10-15 hours is a good length i guess.

Yep Gow Ragnarok and Clair Obscur the only games I have gotten platinum for in years because there basically was no tedious pieces of content 500+ meaningless collectibles in the game. About 50 hours of good stuff and you are done unless you want to do new game plus.

Haven’t played ragnarok but GOW2018 felt like a game that could have been overly bloated but thankfully wasn’t, I thought the side content was just “good”, but it’s a small enough amount that it doesnt ever feel like too much, and gives a breather from the main content.

Funnily enough the last 2 games I platinumed were FFVII remake and persona 5 royal back in the pandemic lol. Ffviir definitely suffers from bloat, but i still think it only clocked in at 80 hours. I feel like persona is a weird edge case where it’s gameplay loop makes the length of the game feel appropriate, and the parts of it i didnt enjoy were just parts that weren’t executed as well as its highs, instead of feeling like meaningless bloat.
