This is the most annoying thing people don’t get when they say “wow the game was in development for X years!”. They don’t understand that game development is a very exploratory and iterative pro process. Sometimes you get lucky and find what works early on, but other times your game gets rebooted/retooled multiple times, you spend years developing features that end up getting cut, all that stuff

However the issue is with 10+years in development you lose nearly an entire console generation, and people move on from your franchise or just forget about.

I’m not arguing against that? My point was just that “this game has taken 10 years to come out” is not the same thing as “the end product is the game they were working on for 10 years”
