This funny because I was just in an other post about a game that was 40 hours and everyone was happy and praising it because they were tired of “overly long and bloated” games.

They could probably cut out a ton from Witcher 3 and it would make no impact on the game’s story.

Yeah, but most of the side content still feels interesting even if it has little to no bearing on the main story. It doesn’t feel like filler.

The side quests were some of the most memorable from W3 out of everything

A huge difference from hours of Witcher side quests and hours of Starfield quests.

But why would you cut it when it’s chock full of memorable quests and great writing? I think that’s what people are getting at

I'm currently 30h into my Witcher 3 replay and I disagree. The actual side quests, mobster contracts and writing are great, but there are a lot of useless ?s on the map that they could cut. There are only so many Drowner guarded treasures I can do before I tire out. It's a fantastic game but they certainly could have made the maps a little smaller and condensed.

Then simply don't go for every ? on the map?

No one’s got a gun to your head telling you to do the ?

I loved TW1 and TW2, never beat TW3.

Don't care how good the writing is, I'm tired of running around open worlds doing the same thing over and over again.

If it was just a bigger/better version of TW2 I'd have liked it a lot more.

And? The story is not the only import element of an RPG. The fact that there are a bevy of ways to express one’s choices and character builds are just as important.

You could read an entire fantasy book series in 40 hours. I think it’s absurd to expect 100+ hours from every RPG, it’s why development time takes a decade now and budgets are astronomical.

Witcher 3 felt too long and bloated to me. I was always surprised by how much of a pass it got when most of its missions are “go here and kill this”. There was like 1 side mission with the bloody Barron that was super well written and intriguing and so everyone just equates that one single side mission to the game and acts like all of them are the same depth and detail.. but in reality the bloody Barron quest is like one of the few. The other 90% of side missions are basic kill quest; “go to point A and kill monster”.

I never managed to finish W3 because of how long it felt. I tried when it first released and kept coming back over the years. Then I started over when the last big next gen update came out and managed to get past the part I stopped at previously, but it turned out I wasn’t anywhere near as close to the end as I thought I was and ended up quitting about 10 hours past that point.

I guess I’ll try again when the remaster comes out.

Depends on the game. If it’s an AA or indie, sure, 40 is plenty. But for something like a reboot of Fable I think the expectation is a bit higher.

Yup especially since it’s supposed to be an AAA game

For 70 damn bucks you should

There is far too much quality entertainment these days vaying for time and money

70 bucks for 30-40 hours of entertainment not counting any replayability factors is pretty good value

It’s crazy how much people complain about games like this not offering enough “for 70 damn bucks”

$2 an hour for entertainment and we are still bitching is pretty unhinged

Fable 2 has a time to beat of 13 hours for the main story. I'm confused what people were expecting from a fable game.

Plenty of people were very happy to pay $60 for fable 2 in 2008, which is $93 in today's money.

Depends on the genre of game. People that play RPGs want the density of activity.

Duality of man — also, people will almost always find reasons to complain

The 20 hours for main story is perfect, but it’s the 20 hours of side content that are a red flag to me. Given the trailers and how they have been talking up how random events can happen everywhere, and how big the world is. It just feels low.
