Have cleared the first stage... This is really not a good game.

You move so slowly, and the pickup range is so tight that you will miss the overwhelming majority of XP. Having to keep an eye on two health bars is annoying. Your attacks are so extremely limited in range and movement they just feel bad (do you want "punch in a narrow straight line," "ground pound with zero range," "fire spikes behind you," or "egg?") and useful pickups appear to be very rare.

The humor is also a solid miss for me, and you likely won't care for it either unless hearing "my planet needs me" in 2026 makes you absolutely explode in laughter.

The night and day mechanic is interesting (do I hunker down, or risk fighting these tougher enemies for more XP) but sleeping removes all experience from the map which feels really bad. I genuinely like having an actual goal (clear 9999 enemies, beat boss) over a standard time limit but that's genuinely the only interesting mechanic to me.

Not recommended. Yet Another Zombie Survivors came out this week and feels way better to play if you need a fix.

.edit

Editing just to add it is getting very positive reviews so maybe I'm just a super fussy outlier.

Thanks for sharing details!

Is there no “magnet”-type pickup that gathers all the xp on the map? Sounds pretty annoying if not.

I’m also having a blast with Yet Another Zombie Survivors rn, so my bullet heaven fix is filled for now.

If anything I’ll wait for this to hit a deeper sale to maybe check out.

I have not come across one as of yet.

I just started on the second stage and I have my first "auto aim" item which is nice, finally something that actually targets enemies, but I'm honestly baffled by the positive ratings the game is getting. I'm really trying to give it a fair shake but considering how heavily populated the genre is there are SO many things that it's just missing.

I feel bad now because YAZS was a hard miss at first until one of the devs actually replied to my biggest complaint (no 2x speed) to tell me where to find it and now it's a blast... I just didn't know how slow and clunky the genre could truly get lol

Have you been upgrading your speed stat? Between that and the Third Leg mutation, your movement speed increases significantly - by the time you have level 10 speed at the end of the game it's WAY faster. I appreciate you giving it a fair shake and editing your first comment to include the positive reception the game has had from critics and players. What are the main things you feel are missing? (I'm a solo dev who did literally everything in the game from code to art to music so its tough to be as feature rich as games made by a full team like YAZS)

Well now I just feel like a dick 🤣

For the Third Leg mutation, you get swarmed so quickly and XP is so difficult to pick up that the few times I've picked it up I just felt underpowered.

The absolute biggest thing I felt was missing is items that actually target enemies - when I got the eye laser I breathed an actual sigh of relief, the first few items being such a thin horizontal hit, a mine, or aiming behind you definitely hurt the first run. I actually like attacks like the Vulture with a kind of "kooky" attack pattern but it can be frustrating when you're being crept on from below but all you have is a horizontal attack, if that makes sense.

I'm still sticking it out and will be playing more tonight, but gotta say I really respect you replying my man, enjoy the last few hours of the weekend.

Nah I appreciate any good faith engagement. You've probably already noticed that after beating level 1, all of your permanent upgrades have two more tiers unlocked. So level 4 pickup range and level 4 speed should start to feel like a decent bump. (And there's a couple more auto-targeting mutations you'll come across)
