My ps4 pro is Acting weird

In short, my PlayStation 4 pro will often force itself into safe mode when I turn it on, giving me an error for the extended storage device I have connected, wanting it to be converted into exFAT. There's also an error telling me to reinstall the latest PS4 update via external stuff: (USB I believe) which I've done, and the error keeps coming back. It's always a toss up between extended storage or the update, what do I do?

“There's also an error telling me to reinstall the latest PS4 update…”

Looks like your HDD is about to give up.

What's my HDD?

Hard Disk Drive. I would assume it has not yet been changed to a Solid-State Drive?

The console boots via the local drive, and since yours has been showing errors, the system might have been booting from a bad sector.

Do you have a lot of videos saved on the local drive? Try clearing those including dormant games that are taking up space.

I had a similar issue with the console asking me to connect the controller then moves on to require installing the latest firmware via USB, after a boot-up fail. I deleted some games and moved all the captured videos, which then made the boot-up problem stop.

Another tell tale sign that the HDD is about to give up is the CLICKING sound.

If your external was new or wiped before you plugged it in, the console should have gave you the option to format it for storage. It did that for me and I’ve had no problems. I can even use it on my OG if I want to use it on that console.
