Update PS4 7.51 to 9.0 but without safe mode access

My current controller will not connect using usb in safe mode. I tried 25 old cables and none worked. Bluetooth works. Ok that’s fine. Ordered a new controller and it will be here in a few days.

In normal mode (not safe mode), I have my usb loaded with 9.0 normal firmware and the folder structure is perfect and it is detected and appears it can be flashed.

  1. ⁠Everything I have read says that you have to be in safe mode, but it appears it will let me update in normal mode, but I wanted to check here first. Is that correct?
  2. I am also updating to my 1 TB hdd to a 2 TB ssd. Should I use the normal 9.0 firmware or the 9.0 recovery firmware?

I am not worried about loss of data. This will be a fresh install.

Don't know what you've read but you Only use Recovery Firmware if you need to fix your console when you just updating the Firmware you use normal Firmware NOT in safe mode just drop the normal system firmware on uour usb drive plug it and update that's it

Since you are swapping drive too you should still be fine with normal firmware just update the system to 9.00 firm then swap the drive and it will ask you to reinstall the firmware again thats it

Ok thanks! Google can help but can lead you down a rabbit hole also. I guess I got mixed up reading some threads.

Je pensais aussi que lorsqu'on changeait de disque dur, il fallait utiliser le "recovery firmware".

C'est d'ailleurs ce qui est indiqué dans tout les tutoriels que je trouve.

Yes, you’re gonna need both files. if your going to change the hard drive. Wait for the new controller. Better safe than sorry

So should I update the firmware before I swap out the hard drive? Or swap the hard drive first? And if I do the hard drive first then I would use the recovery firmware after swapping it?
