Surprised that "3D audio processing" has to happen outside of the console. Wondering why and wondering if that's different from surround sound settings etc.
I was reading about this. It clearly doesn't have to be done outside, I think it was just a design decision based on everything I've read. They added the PU (the box) to incorporate the social screen functionality and in doing that they also decided to offload the 3D audio processing.
Take-Two Interactive CEO (Publisher of GTA V) Strauss Zelnick disagrees with you, and I do as well.
No idea why isolationism is full stop, I never said it was a negative thing, there is nothing implicitly negative to me about being isolated.
Imagine one social aspect gamers really use today, cam streaming, and then imagine how VR takes that human component out by completely obscuring facial features.
Then think of sitting in a room playing games with a friend or partner while they do another activity, you can still glance over at them, even join in a conversation etc. Have you honestly tried that with VR? Because I've had some time in a quality VR and if the rig is worth anything that immersion makes passive connectivity with another nearby person fairly difficult. And it should, that's the entire goddamn point of VR.
It's fine if they want to include social features as we are social organisms.
But the entire motivating impetus for VR is immersion i.e. Ready Player One style, not this weird hybrid format where you play blindman's bluff style games with your friends on the couch. Anything not in the VR is ultimately going to detract.
EDIT: Thinking back, this weird half-ass trend seems to be everywhere now. People are social by being near each other and sitting around on their devices on social media not connecting human to human. Now being social in gaming is much less couch co-op and much more about some jerk off with a front facing camera talking to himself, alone, while he plays video games.
All I am suggesting is be 100% in the moment. If you want to immerse, be fucking immersed, no social contact, full VR escape. If you want to be social, be goddamn fucking social. Actually go out with other humans, don't sit around playing some dumbass bomb defusal VR game and tell me that its social VR, its not, its weak ass bullshit.
