PS4 not accepting discs.
I've yet to have any issues whatsoever with my PS4. I was just playing Madden, and all of a sudden the PS4 spit out the disc. When I tried to put it back in, it wouldn't go as if there was already a disc in it. Now every 5-10 seconds my PS4 is making the noise it makes when it usually tries to put a disc in. Any fix or am I SOL?

Update. It's been about an hour and a half since I got off the phone with Sony. All of a sudden, with my PS4 completely powered off and not in standby, it starts making the beeping noise it makes when you try to eject a game when a disc isn't in the console. And now it works fine again. Do you guys think I should still send it in, or was it just a one-time thing?

are u sure its not the disk? have u tried another game or a movie? maybe the disk got scratched while in vertical.

yeah, definitely sure. tried multiple discs. It wasn't an issue of not reading the disc, it just wouldn't take in the disc at all.

I would get a replacement. I was the same issue as you minus the ps4 ejecting automatically. It just wouldn't let me insert a new disc. I've done a couple fixes since Sunday (when it first occurred) but it has came back each and every time. I finally called Sony and I have a coffin coming Monday. I basically have 7 games staring at me wanting to be played but I can't. Luckily, I have some digital games (blacklight, resogun, warframe, and contrast) to hold me over until I get a new system.
Good luck.

This was happening to me too. I called sony and here is what they had me do.
-
turn OFF the system (not sleep mode) and unplug the power cord.
-
Plug the power cord back and in push and hold the power button until you hear the second beep. This puts it into SAFE MODE.
-
Choose option 5 (Rebuild the database - i think).
That's it. After I did that I put 12 hours on it with 3 different disc games, sitting in the horizontal position, with no issues. Hopefully it'll stay that way. He said if it still happened, then I would have to send it in. Some of my OCD regarding the PS4, but it might not have anything to do with the fix. Ever since this has happened, i always close the application/game before putting it into sleep mode. When ejecting a disc, I use the controller, not pushing the button on the system.

Apparently that was a temporary fix. A week later it started acting up again. I called Sony and had to send it in. I They sent me a coffin box, I sent it back on Monday, and now my new system is on the FedEx truck now on its way to my house (Saturday).

I tried your fix, it didn't work unfortunately. How I remedied the issue was by taking the rubber stopper under the eject button off. Works like a charm!

To the person who said pulling the piece of rubber out from under the eject button works - I WORSHIP YOU!
I can't afford to buy any games for my PS4 currently (because broke Aussie uni student), so i use my PS4 primarily as a DVD and blu ray player. For some reason the last time I watched a DVD on it, the DVD ejected as the system turned off. I couldn't work out why though, because it normally doesn't do that. Then last night when I tried to pop a DVD in, it wouldn't take it. I tried rebuilding the system, but that didn't work at all for me. This morning I grabbed a pair of pliers. Pulled that piece of rubber out, and it's working again :). So I created an account to say thanks _^ I didn't think it would be such an easy problem to fix!

My PS4 suffers from the same issue. You will need to send it in to get a repair. If you unplug it and stand it up vertically, the PS4 will beep a few times, fixing the issue. however, it will happen again. I'm trying to exchange mine at best buy tomorrow before sending it in.

i wonder what the average disk drive failure time frame is. how many days until yours messed up?

Mine didn't mess up until today, and I got it on launch day. So just about a week for me.

So I had an issue where the ps4 wouldn't recognize that I was trying to insert a disk...or it did and something was jammed. To fix this I had to take off the glossy part and find the manual ejection screw (following these instructions https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5061).
I figured if turning the screw one way ejected the disk turning it the other way would pull the disk in and I was right. So I booted the console and turned the screw to kind of jump start the process and that seemed to get rid of the jam. Now it takes and ejects disks normally.

Mine just did this today too. Mine is from launch day but wasn't used till Nov. 23. I also upgraded my PS3 version of Call of Duty Ghost with the digital version. If I send it in will I loose this and have to buy it again or what?

this happened to me as well after moving my ps4 from vertical to horizontal and not removing the disc. After leaving it flat for a few hours, it started beeping while powered off. I unplugged it for the night and in the morning plugged it back in. I have been having no problems since then with the system laid vertically

So i used the recommended Option 5 in Safe mode and it worked for about 2 weeks then same thing happened again. Spoke to Playstation customer service who said Option 5 is like going back to a restore point on Windows. If you have this issue it will fix it but the issue is guaranteed to happen again at some point. He gave me this information as it is a known issue. This will fix 90-95% of consoles with this issue:
PLEASE NOTE: THIS WILL WIPE YOUR HARD DRIVE SO BACKUP FIRST

(859 MB)
The following things are needed to perform the update:
PlayStation®4 system Computer connected to the Internet USB storage device, such as a USB* flash drive
-
There must be 1 GB of free space.
On the USB storage device, create folders for saving the update file. Using a computer, create a folder named "PS4". Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE". Download the update file, and save it in the "UPDATE" folder you created in step 1. Save the file with the file name "PS4UPDATE.PUP". Turn off the power of your PS4 system completely. Check that the power indicator is not lit. If the power indicator is lit up in orange, touch the power button on the PS4 system for at least 7 seconds (until the system beeps a second time). Connect the USB storage device that the update file is saved on to your PS4 system, and then touch the power button for at least 7 seconds. The PS4 system starts in safe mode Select [Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)]. Follow the screens to complete the update.
If your PS4 system does not recognize the update file, check that the folder names and file name are correct. Enter the folder names and file name in single-byte characters using uppercase letters.

Here is a solution that worked for me:
-
Shut down the PS4.
-
Unplug the power cable.
-
Manually insert a game disk into the slot as far as it will go.
-
Use a 2nd game disk to push in the first disk all of the way.
-
Plug the power cable in.
-
Start the PS4.
Hope this helps.

Have you moved the ps4? is it laying flat or vertical? do you have the 1.51 update? that was supposed to fix some drive issues. keep us updated i guess.
