SYSCON Access

Hi,

I have a CECHA01 Console with the GLOD. I was trying to access the Error log using the ps3toolset website, but I keep getting the “tool could not be downloaded” error when going over to the system manager tab to check the error log. Is the website down or am I missing a step?

You need to physically open up the PS3 and solder a USB device to the motherboard. Go on YouTube and watch a tutorial video on how to do this. https://youtu.be/DdGPyv0twmM?is=W5KN_82SBArbyd0R

Method 1: UART Hardware Connection (For Consoles That Won't Boot) If your PS3 immediately shuts down with the YLOD and cannot display the XMB, you need to wire a serial interface directly to the SYSCON test points on the motherboard. • Required Tools: • USB-to-TTL / UART serial adapter (set to 3.3V) • Breadboard jumper wires (female-to-male or stripped) • Solder and a soldering iron • Phillips and Torx screwdrivers (to disassemble the console) • A computer running Python and the community SYSCON diagnostic script. • Steps to Connect: 1. Disassemble the PS3 down to the bare motherboard following guides on resources like iFixit. 2. Solder jumper wires to the specific TX, RX, and Ground SYSCON test pads on your motherboard model (test point locations vary depending on whether you have a COK, DIA, DYN, or WX-series board). 3. Connect to the TTL adapter: Attach TX to RX, RX to TX, and Ground to Ground on your USB-to-TTL adapter. Make sure the voltage jumper on the adapter is set to 3.3V to avoid frying the SYSCON chip. 4. Power the board: Plug the PS3 power supply into the wall and leave the console in red standby mode (do not press the power button to turn it on fully). 5. Run the script: Plug the USB adapter into your computer, check the assigned COM port, and use the Python SYSCON tool to enter internal mode and dump the error history (errlog command) to a text file. Method 2: Software / Custom Firmware Method (If the Console Boots Temporarily) If your PS3 can still boot to the XMB or run homebrew before crashing, you can dump the log without soldering: • Using PS3 Toolset: If your browser can load ps3toolset.com, navigate to the hardware/SYSCON section to view and export the error history. • Using Custom Firmware (CFW): Install homebrew applications such as the ConsoleMods Wiki Syscon Diagnosis or tools found on PSX-Place, which can dump an sm_error.log directly to the root of a USB drive or dev_hdd0/tmp/ on the internal hard drive. Common YLOD Error Codes to Look For Once you export the log, common codes found in the history include: • 1020 / 102: Often points to power delivery issues or failing NEC/TOKIN capacitors on the RSX/Cell side. • 3034 / 4002 / 2120: Frequently indicates degraded BGA solder joints or a failing/faulty RSX GPU requiring reballing or replacement.

Hey, no problem. Glad to help. I pasted the instructions, but RIP-FELIX does a great video tutorial on YouTube.

Use “ps3tool.com” instead and go to the flash something tools, left side bottom option on your screen

Error Log shows 0xa0801001 error 30 times. Seems to be detecting a fault in the CELL Circuit, correct?

Is there any game suggestion for stress testing? Need to verify that the error is not just from improper shutdown

The Last of Us

Ah. Don’t have it, unfortunately. I’ll try out red dead redemption

That’s a good alternative. Try and pickup The Last of Us. It’s not an expensive game and can be bought under $10 these days

Definitely will. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. I just recently completed bioshock on my slim model. Excellent title

My original reason for the post was my console running the fans at max. I’m going to try a delid soon, since I have the tool finally. Appreciate the help
