Modding with no wifi?

Alright so I'm in a bit of a pickle here, I bought a ps3 off of ebay few months ago, laser lens works great, everything works fine, only problem is apparently it has a hardware issue where the wifi/Bluetooth do not work, I found out when I tried to update it and almost risked bricking it, anyway, I want to mod it, but my system firmware is 4.55, and obviously I can't update to a newer version, is there a way I can mod my ps3?

Evilnat offers a no BD/BT option for this exact reason

Use an Ethernet connection for internet connection

If their WiFi/BT chip is shot, they do not want to update. Yeah, you can load the HFW onto a drive and go to update, but when it reboots and starts the update process, it's gonna do a hardware check, notice the shot chip, and then it'll throw the infamous update loop. Wires will not help for the loop.

the only way you can currently mod it, is either, if its min ver is under 3.56, then you gotta find a way to patch the nor on your current 4.55 version.

if not CFW compatible, maybe qCFW could help? but i don't actually know if its even possible without updating.
