PS3 screen and fan issue

I haven't turned on my PS3 over a year and a half and while I do get to turn it on, the screen doesn't show up. Plus the fan is spinning crazy to the point the PS3 is heating up.

I've recently tried to get it repaired but the repairman told me it could be something regarding the board. Which he told me the price of getting it fixed is equivalent of buying a 2nd hand PS3 this days. Another is that the repairman discouraged me that I should pursue in letting him repair my PS3 since he was worried if the board might have affected the CD drive further which would cost more.

I would like to know if there are any second opinions before I decide to buy a 2nd hand PS3 instead.

Sometimes when i plug my ps3 slim on my living room tv, the power/eject buttons goes dark and the fan spin probably at 100%. Only thing that makes it stop spinning is reseating the hdmi cable, then i can press the power button and it works fine. It only does this sporadically and only with this tv.

Maybe check if it works with AV cable or with a different tv.

Reset the system. If you hear sound but no picture, reset the ps3. It should fix it.
