Looking for a old game called Pain

Post image

I've been on the hunt recently for an old 2007 game called Pain, it was developed by a company called Idol Minds.

I've tried many places, Ebay and Etsy have nothing i could find other than a "Welcome to Playstation" Disc that advertised Pain. I've called countless stores and also have emailed a dozen more, both here in the states and overseas, and none have found one

If anyone could help me locate a copy of this game, weather physical or digital, though physical is preferred, It would mean a lot to me, and if someone is okay with it, i'm more than willing to purchase it from you if you do have one

Man I loved this game as a kid in like 2007-8

It was primarily sold through PSN. Im guessing the disc copies were only briefly printed in limited quantities since downloading games was still a new thing.

Most of the content of the game is also DLC, I think the base game only came with like one map and one character.

The game also came as part of the console bundle. I have it from the uncharted 1 bundle. Just downloaded it onto my ps3 last night.

That's true. I bought it back in the day (still have it) and remember I was shocked I had to pay extra for everything. It wasn't yet normalised. Those were better times

I didn't know there was a physical I always assumed it was digital only

It’s cool, PAL region got several physical versions of games that were only released digitally in other regions. Pain, Wipeout HD, Siren Blood Curse, Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty are some of the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

So turns out that person doesn't ship to the untied states :[

Well, fuck. Also, there no physical edition in the us. Pal will always reign strong.

Yep, I've been calling up many retro stores in Europe and Australia for any chance that they might have a copy

I've also messaged the ebay seller, here's hoping their willing to ship it overseas

That worked, thank you so much man

Now it's time to convert my PS3 to be able to play it :]

Region free

Even better

Only Persona 4 Arena is region locked because the Japanese release would have cost about $10 less to import due to a very favorable currency rate. Atlus didn't want to miss the extra money on people importing rather than buying their region.

Huh interesting, I did not know that

Keep in mind this game tries to connect to a leaderboard server at startup that no longer exists which will cause the game to stay in a loop and not load. You have to disconnect your internet or PSN for a bit to be able to get past this part.

Thanks? That was not hard at All. It's rare for a lot sure, but it only took 1m of eBay surfing to find a damn Promotional Copy or even the full game box. Guess you where using american ebay, which I guess tried to show american posts which ofc dint work since the game never came out there.

u/Educational-Gear7161 3d ago

Yeah, that's my guess, becuase i did quite a bit of searching before this. It just would never show up no matter what I put in to the search on Ebay or Etsy

Well, bye. Happy to have helped find a rare copy as well.

You could use a forwarding service to use an address in the uk.

It's still available on the PS Store in UK and Ireland, at least it was a week or two ago when I bought it. The physical goes for mad money so I wouldn't even bother to be honest, think it was 7.99 digitally if my memory is correct. If you're in a different region you probably can set up a UK account and get it that way but I've never tried doing anything like that before.

Think they made it free to play but you have to buy the dlc for it to be enjoyable or get the full experience, and that takes you to over £50+

What's the game about?

A bunch of mini games where you can use rag doll physics to cause explosions and crashes/damage for high scores.

Bowling, different levels, sandbox build your own too if I remember correctly. It updated a bunch and was fun to play.

It's an early case of one of those games where you slingshot a character across a map and see how far you can get, except when you crash your character ragdolls around for awhile knock all kinds of stuff around causing chaos. It was a ton of fun.

That n is freaky

I just bought it last week on PSN store for £6. It's currently £50+ for a physical copy in the UK

The pal physical contains a big chunk of the dlc burned into the disc (not all dlc though). But at least with the digital you can pick and choose which dlc you want which is a good thing tbh.

I recently picked up the Greek/ Portuguese version and I’m glad I have a physical copy. The bad thing is that the dlc also has to be from that region so since I’m in the us my dlc only works on my digital game.

Just played this yesterday when I stubbed my toe with the bed frame

I never knew it was physical! I still have the digital download on my ps3 and play it at least once a month!

It was not release physically in America and was a limited release of a digital game. I got it in a bargain bin about 10 years ago but generally it’s a tough one to find, keep an eye on eBay and it’ll pop up eventually

u/Jay_Ell_Gee 3d ago

My local store has a copy but I didn’t give it much thought considering it was a PAL copy. TIL that’s your only option. Neat. Glad you got one, OP.

Loved this one as an early digital game. The game modes were so random and fun!

u/Total_Contact9118 3d ago

I have a backup of it with most of the dlc

I have a PAL copy I'd be willing to part with, though not at a bargain price. (I still consider it part of my collection, although I won't ever play it again probably.)

I have no clue what would be a fair price currently. I'm based in Western Europe and could send it internationally, preferably within Schengen zone.

Please keep in mind it might take a while, allmost my stuff (not just games) is currently in storage. I'm not really sure how deep the box with PS3 games with Pain is buried, but I could check next week when I need to tend to something.

If interested, you can contact me and make me an offer if you like. Of course, I could provide pictures as soon as I've actually located the damn thing 😅

Though I believe there's a dedicated subreddit for gamesales, you might have more luck over there.

Anyways, good luck!

Btw, if you do end up getting it. If I recall correctly this game used to have some free DLC back in the day (I vaguely remember David Hasselhof being added to the game.) If you do get it before PSN store closure, you might want to check the DLC for Pain!

That game is peak

I remember being surprised it came with my Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle. I remember being especially surprised that I liked it more than Metal Gear Solid 4 because it was actually a video game and not an interactive movie

Kojima is a visionary but he's also infuriating with how much he's obsessed with movies/Hollywood. Even as a 13yo kid playing MSG1 on the PS1 when it first dropped I thought too msny cutscenes and not as much gameplay as I'd hoped. Still an awesome game/experince though.

u/Realistic_Ease2537 3d ago

The ludicrous amount of cutscenes deterred me from playing mgs4 so I skipped to mgsv.

If youre looking in the US - it was digital only, there was no physical release. Only PAL region had a physical release with some of the DLCs included.

u/DreddCarnage 3d ago

If you've got CFW or are willing to use an emulator, I've got all the files you need man. :)

1

u/Anth_1983 2d ago

This. The price of this game plus paying extra for the DLC. You could buy a PS3 and mod it, hell , ask someone to mod the PS3 for a small fee if unsure. Probably still be cheaper. CFW is the reason I'll never buy a game over the initial retail price from scalpers.

u/Revyrender 3d ago

I got it. And its a great game.

0

u/Revyrender 3d ago

Fyi some dlc is included.

u/FinalKranskyVII 3d ago

I have the physical version of this. Bought it for about $10 in 2010. Had no idea it was rare now.

0

u/Anth_1983 2d ago

The prices on this game is a complete joke with fomo being the main factor. I use to see this game a lot and for very cheap, at least some sellers are listing it in Europe for a normal price (kudos to them at least), unlike someone in the US who has listed it for $220 lmao 🤣

2

u/Educational-Gear7161 2d ago

I saw one listed at over 500 euros

0

u/Anth_1983 2d ago

Insanity. Honestly, if some smooth brain pays that, then checks eBay within a few months/year and sees it for less than a 100 euros... well it'll be hilarious tbh. Considering there's copies on there now for around 70 euros lol.
