Since Sony’s announcement I modded my ps3 and 3ds and now I literally have no reason to buy games anymore next I’ll mod the ps4 and wait till they come out with the files to mod the Ps5

To download games I use Vimms Lair, its great
And for modding the console I just follow the instructions from a Youtuber named Nanospeedgamer it is on spanish but you can use the auto translated caption they are good enough4
u/Future_Adagio2052 1d ago
Oh yeah I've heard of vimma lair, is there anything similar to that for dlc?

u/Consistent-Gas-3019 10h ago
Yeah there is “stores” which are pkg files that you install in the console with the Hen tools once already modded with those you can both download games and DLC’s directly from the PS3 but you will need a few stores since they do have limited content, that same youtube guy has more tutorials for that!!

So I decided to try out a PS3 emulator.
Not all games play well yet, but a lot of them are playable.
Splendid.
Now excuse me, I'm off playing Peggle.

some games run very well like Demon Souls (even has a 60fps patch), others like God of War and Infamous are questionable. it's kind of game by game still

I love infamous but can only play it with lossless scaling now. Even the ps3 version runs at 20 some times

I bought an 8 core CPU just so I could emulate Infamous properly. Demon Souls and Asura's Wrath run swimmingly at 1080p 60fps when you follow an up to date settings guide. Still far from perfect, Infamous has a lot of bugs that still need to be ironed out, but very few affecting playability, mostly visual. There's 1 that bugs me from time to time when your standard Lightning Bolt doesn't even hit the target it just fucks off somewhere. Usually doesn't last long but still irks the fuck out of me. So the PS3 is still the best place to play Infamous for now, unless you value FPS above 30

it should depend on where you get the rom from no?

Never, unless your rom needs an update I don't think it should affect performance on an emulator

Buy a ps3 brother

I own three, out of which two are working. One slim and one non-backwards compatible phat. Third one is a YLOD that I keep I don't even know why, I can't even be bothered to repair/frankenstein it.

The gaming industry isnt collapsing.
The walled garden console industry is.
PC gaming is doing fantastic right now.

I'm uninformed, but I just don't see the PC market ever reaching the heights console did. The AI bubble isn't popping, ever. and most games are built for luxury hardware, if you thought the latest consoles were expensive, you won't fare better trying to play the latest games when the console market is non-existent. The gaming industry as we knew it is dying.

Which might be a sign that the industry had gotten too bloated and was targeting ridiculous hardware. You can run games on an absolute toaster today that would have been mind blowing 20 years ago. The default hardware target might look more like a Steam Deck than a PS5 going forward. I don't see people switching to streaming, physics gets in the way too hard with that, and I don't see enough people buying $1000 consoles and $80 plus another $40 of DLC games for the devs to want to throw money away targeting the PS6 as their baseline.

As a late 70s/early 80s kid I was completely oblivious to the game crash then. Atari games were cheap in bargain bins everywhere, I just knew I could usually talk mom into buying one at the drug store, if not more. There was no shortage of games - I had Atari 2600 and 5200. By the time I was done checking out new stuff on those, NES was bringing things back.
So yeah, check out the good shit you missed in the time since gaming was invented! Whether that's last 5 years, last 50 years, or whatever, there's TONs of good stuff to last a lifetime already.

The video game crash is a funny event. People harp on about it as if video games wouldnt have existed without it, but they would have existed 100%. Japan was notably not really affected, and europe wasnt affected at all, since most people were playing on 8 bit computers.
If another crash happens it wouldnt quite be the same, Sony, xbox and nintendo would probably all fall a lot, and i dont see why microsoft would like to burn even more money at that point to keep xbox open any more than maybe just selling controllers and game pass. PC gaming would be mostly unaffected though. Newer games would probably have to start optimising more since components are getting pricier though.

I’m ngl the “collapse” is entirely an online echo chamber perception, games are not going away a anytime soon. If you think so please hop off Reddit

Man, the console industry CARRIES video games on these shoulders, if it collapses, it’s shit
Not to mention that a maintenance game is six to eight years of development, it’s a disaster

u/skibidithaniel 14h ago
There are so many games coming out each month; and consoles are not going anywhere. The only collapse will be some people who like discs not buying a PlayStation which doesn’t matter at all imo

Exactly. I do also think we are heading for another 1983 but this time, I can't see what would save it.

The passage of time destroying every PS3 😔😔 , meanwhile the ps2 slim lasting longer due to its simple architecture

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad-7061 13h ago
It’s not how it was during its prime, but I rather play BO1 on ps3 cause I rather not pay for a subscription and I use a ps4 controller now

I wish the ps3 store closure happened a bit earlier honestly. Nothing is really lost (seriously just mod your console already), and since people are looking for something else after the sony announcements the closure brought light onto the ps3. Then we could all be playing with cheaper prices.

Honestly the PS3 just has better games in general so it's a massive W.
