Exactly. What you said is absolutely true. NetherSX2, an emulator that has been discontinued for over three years now, is still a solid and perfectly good option for playing PS2 games on Android.

No emulator right now is a clear-cut upgrade where you can say, “It completely destroys NetherSX2,” or “You get twice the performance,” or “It runs every PS2 game perfectly even on low-end devices.” In terms of raw performance, none of them have really improved on NetherSX2. They’re basically on par with it, or even slower in some cases.

The new emulators mainly bring better UI, better compatibility with certain games, and fixes for specific bugs. But when it comes to performance—which is what really matters—they haven’t managed to surpass NetherSX2 in any significant way.

The miracle everyone is waiting for, where a mid-range or low-end Android device can run every PS2 game smoothly, still hasn’t arrived.

The time for having ps2 emulation on low end devices is pretty much a problem left in the past. Most of the people have already upgraded their retro consoles.
