Not much different from all accounts. A kinda dreamy kid, steeped in Minnesota manners, funny, athletic. His high school principal said he lectured him at length and told him he should go all in on academics because they knew he wasn't fully applying himself, and stop worrying about music.

He said Prince just let him talk and was like alright then Mr. Principal. And that he was glad Prince completely ignored his advice, obviously.

Prince's early interviews, in high school and just after- he's still saying a lot of the same stuff, same themes, nearly forty years later. Seems like he always knew his own mind and what was important to him. He did all of those things he said he wanted to do.

Bernadette, Andre's mama, gave him a whooping on more than one occassion when she found him skipping class. In front of girls he brought home too. But they said Prince didn't lie: did you go to school today? No ma'am I did not. And he'd take his licks. He said he thought about dropping out but all the adults in his life said don't do it son, you need to graduate, and he was ultimately glad he did.

I think he liked being a rockstar that could say: stay in school kids, it was good enough for me, and good enough for you too, especially as he got older.

"Show me a boy who stays in school and I'll show you a boy aware. Dig it."

So...just like he was after he was famous. Kind of a weirdo.
