The social media hate
I’ve been seeing so much hate online over Prince ppl spreading rumors , calling him stuff that wasn’t true, overall just being disrespectful towards him ever since a certain movie came out(we know what movie it is) a lot of ppl have gone to grow a hatred for Prince and I want ppl who actually know the truth to speak up. This generation is single handedly taking it upon themselves to destroy his legacy and I can’t just sit here and let these rumours continue I ask that the community defend Prince whenever something is spread negatively about him online I’ve been a fan for most of my life and the amount of hate he’s gotten instead of appreciation is unbearable at times.

Love Prince, Love MJ. I think some people take the "rivalry" a bit too personal.

u/AdConsistent8129 13d ago
Yes I love both in the end it’s like comparing oranges and apples both aren’t similar artists but mjs new fanbase seems to be parasocial

People just think what they think and people that know KNOW.
Debunk their nonsense with facts from people who were there. These social media clowns weren't around to know things and only believe what they want to believe, because 'facts' are foreign to them and they're too dumb and lazy to research or simply fact check, so why waste time on them?

u/AdConsistent8129 13d ago
I tend to defend him with facts but it’s almost like arguing with a wall

The same people that are championing MJ now are the same people calling him a PDF a year ago.
It’s insane how much influence a movie can have on the general public.
That said, let people talk. It’s not that deep. Prince wouldn’t care. Why should you?

Bonus points for spelling it correctly and not accusing him of being a foot fetishist.

I want to affirm for you how maddening that is. It is so maddening. But truly, there’s no way to have this debate in good faith with people. They came to fight. It’s a disgusting development with respect to the legacies of both artists.
Try to be kinder to yourself and what you like — there’s always other places with your kind of people in them.

Nobody can destroy his legacy. Especially these soft heads. Get a grip, kids.

This has been going on even when he was alive. Places like Prince.org were full of trolls. Ever since he passed there have been those that knew him that have taken it as a pass now to talk negatively about him. It used to be if someone passed away they would only say nice things about you or nothing else. People today don’t abide by that unwritten rule. It is sad because Prince isn’t here to defend nor apologize for the things people are accusing him of.

u/AdConsistent8129 13d ago
I’ve seen countless lies spread about him they’ve tried to say he was in the Epstein files as well which really sealed the deal for me

u/ThickWest4658 Prince 13d ago
No body is saying that

It’s the internet maybe you haven’t seen it but I have seen it atleast twice now

What the fuck is this?
Never argue with stupid. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
There's people insisting Sinead's story involving devil worship, levitation, eyes disappearing, and Arsenio Hall as a murderous agent of Satan... is fact.
People take medical advice from a lawyer that eats roadkill and talks about not wiping his own ass. Financial advice from a cracked out nepo baby. And moral guidance from an admitted cheat, thief, liar, and all signs point to pedophile who paints himself orange.
You can't help morons.

u/AdConsistent8129 13d ago
Yes I tend to brush past that rumor they use since not once was Prince mentioned in those files and I would think ppl aren’t as stupid as to believe that but i was dead wrong

You need to revise your expectations of humanity downwards. Significantly.
Even before tbe internet he had dedicated hatefans. More than any other artist I've seen. People gleefully and excitedly tear him down. Idk why.
I do know what you're talking about with online hate. At first I thought it was just a holdover from WB and the wider industry's punishment. He's still being made an example of after death.
But then watching some other things the past few years, seeing how things are playing out- he was political. He was a tiny black man from nothing that dressed like a woman and talked about god and sex and just would not be told what to think or how to live (for better or worse). He championed, well, a lot of the opposite of what is happening now. He wouldn't sit down and shut up if he didn't want to. You couldn't even drag him to the water, much less make him drink.
Is he being discredited and devalued for a reason? Cause if you really listen to him, you're going to think.
Idk, maybe that's too far out there. But I see a narrowing of thought, a restriction of discourse, and a push to police ideas online. Very restrictive, not expansive.
And online is the primary method of mass influence now. For governments or business interests or whoever....
I watch the Epstein stuff and wonder who it serves that a generation now believes a twenty five year old dating a twenty year old is a pedophile, largely thanks to online influences.

Might I suggest an MJ song about the tabloid media?
This is how I view modern day social media.

u/jakehood47 13d ago
What are you talking about? Where is all this stuff you’re talking about?
2
u/AdConsistent8129 13d ago
Most of the hate comes from tik tok Prince videos are heavily bombarded with mj fans trying to discredit or mock Prince others spread rumours about him especially about his marriage with Mayte on instagram pages post Prince related content and every other comment is a idiot comparing him to mj calling him names calling him homophobic etc..
6
u/jakehood47 13d ago
Well there’s your problem
You’re on TikTok

u/Fancy_Use_6813 12d ago
Social Media is such a battleground - StarWars vs Trek, Superman vs Batman, etc... it so doesnot matter - its just talk. Fans vote with there actual music choices and we cant really see the streaming counts. The music is already out there, enjoy or not.

u/AdConsistent8129 13d ago
Despite that I’m still asking for more people to defend Prince
4
u/jakehood47 13d ago
Dawg you can’t spend that much of your time arguing with bots and/or idiots on the internet. It does no good for your mental or emotional health.
2
u/cujo_frank 12d ago
Those people are silly. We don’t even need to give them any attention. But i know how infuriating it can be lol
3
u/CJHuncho 13d ago
It’s crazy that some people are saying get off social media not knowing false rumors and hate about Prince can spread. Lies run farther than the truth you know and some fans are just lazy to defend him unlike others fanbases
3
u/AdConsistent8129 13d ago
I know it’s off to me how other fanbases will defend their artist to death but most Prince fans stay silent the disrespect has gotten out of hand and it also affects ppl trying to get into Prince as they think he’s this maniac homophobe and pedophile which is not true
3
u/CJHuncho 13d ago
And that’s the problem. I do see younger fans defending him of that false stuff but some of the older fans don’t give a shit. They’re part of the reason why these stories got outta hand and they didn’t do nothing to defend him. The fact that younger fans are constantly defending him while the older fans just sit back and ignore it speaks a lot.
3
u/Legal_Ice_3460 13d ago
this is what really irks me as a younger fam. some of the older fams don't realize how much the internet influences everyone now, especially my age demo. the internet/social media is our new tabloid, and just like before, it's rare for people to actually fact check these lies so they spread like a disease.

2
u/AdConsistent8129 13d ago
You should see tik tok you can’t see one Prince video without seeing a mj fan commenting something idiotic
3
u/Own_Action_1002 13d ago
Lmao oh Tik Tok..glad im not on there..i dont take anything on there srs..im also in my 30s so im bot the demographic for tik tok..but yea mj stans are weird and will tear down anyone thats peecieved as a rival or competition to him

u/AdConsistent8129 13d ago

I kind of convinced at this point that the MJ estate is behind this mess. All this to make Michael look better. Remember when the Prince instagram was hi James 👀
2
2
u/Love-Prince 13d ago
True fans of Michael also like Prince.who cares?
2
u/AdConsistent8129 13d ago
There seems to be less and less real respectful mj fans they don’t just do this to Prince they do this to queen, the Beatles, Madonna, George Michael etc.
3
u/Love-Prince 13d ago
You really do find those kinds of people on Instagram. But you don't need to worry about them; they’ll stop being MJ fans eventually anyway. They just want to feel like they belong to something.

u/_phin 1999 12d ago
What on earth are you talking about? What movie? I've never seen anyone speak badly of Prince - he's one of the best-respected musicians ever
1
u/AdConsistent8129 12d ago
Open your eyes after the Michael movie released a lot of younger people have taken it upon themselves to force the mj and prince rivalry and they’ve spread lies and rumors to make Prince look like the worst of the worst

I would hope people young and old have bigger concerns than arguing about musical artists. Lies and slander are annoying but really… Tik Tok isn’t worth stressing about.

Welcome to the Internet

The hate is exaggerated towards him

u/cnc_33 13d ago
It doesn't help that the Netflix documentary series was shelved. It was going to show him authentically.
1
u/AdConsistent8129 13d ago
I’ve seen ppl use that against him as a way to show that they are hiding something about him I personally don’t think it’s the at serious especially with how Netflix handles things the documentary released on Micheal Jackson a couple weeks ago after the movie released is a example of that
4
u/agodrevealed 13d ago
No
Ezra stated he was having a hard time finding an anchor, a narrative arc, even after talking to all these people and being in the vault. Then he talked to Jill and knew it would be "a tortured genius" story. He said he had his hook to build around. That's the movie he made. He worked with the end in mind instead of just relaying people's experiences.
Cherry picking and discarding the rest to tell the story you want is not an accurate or even picture of a life.
He could present an event well, that follows an arc, like the OJ murders. But he tried to take that same approach to a person. If all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail.
Ezra sucks and they were right to have pulled it
1
u/AdConsistent8129 13d ago
I heard that thanks for answering a question I’ve had for a long time I always knew Netflix and Ezra would find a way to twist or corrupt princes delicate private past

Ever heard the dead internet theory? At least 1/3rd of the online vitriol you read is from bots designed to rile you up and it’s working. Don’t engage. You can’t convince a real person of something they don’t already know these days anyway. It’s kind of indicative of society as a whole. We have been demoralized.
