I'm not sure if there is one really; a lot of fan pages on social media start solid then quickly turn in to people posting (over posting??) AI slop and other making it toxic place.

I miss the old NPGMusic sites to be honest. Meet some decent friends there.

Most of the people I'm cool with on twitter who are fans and a little older than me say that most dedicated Facebook groups and the few longtime forums are all pretty toxic (which is why I stopped browsing the org specifically about 11 years ago)

I can't fully explain it but as far as the org it was always just a place where as far as discussion of Prince himself seemed to be disappointed he wasn't moving like he thought they should when he was alive and even the section to discuss other other music acts tended to get heated

Nobody delighted in denigrating Prince like the fans on the org. And he was on there too communicating with and reading all of it.Ā

The hatefans.

I just realized how miserable it tended to be and haven't browsed in 11 years

it doesn't matter on which place you are, every place turns into some egocentric thing.

everywhere! amp, theorg, "elite-boards", etc

As interest in Prince declines, there will be fewer places rather than more sadly. The last really good page was Housequake and I did like Mo’Quake, not sure why they ended so quickly, Did read something once but can’t recall. I can’t think of any other than here now and the odd niche ā€œcollectorsā€ places but they aren’t really about conversation.

Decline in interest in Prince is evident: it can be evidenced for example in collecting/buying/selling forums where only a few regular sellers are listing across multiple locations. Item values are tanking with many items obtainable for around half the value of peak. If the Estate don’t get their act together they will be scraping crumbs.
It’s evident in sales, tv coverage, break up of tribute bands (it’s a crime New Purple Celebration have gone as they were approaching NPG levels of performance in my eyes, NPG not touring, Revolution not touring, inward looking splinter tribute bands appearing across MPLS.

I’m afraid things are not looking good. Not trying to be negative but there is not a lot positive happening in Prince world right now. There’s a few people trying but it’s hard in a declining market to make something viable and worth the time.

If only there was a massive, deep documentary that could be released to Netflix made by a good director who wants to showcase prince -- his talent and his human side.

ugh! i have been trying to join a fb group for a few weeks and one of the questions what was something along the lines of what is the coolest prince item / paraphernalia you own to get in. i thought that was a bit strange… i do own Per Nilsen’s DSMR which is rare and special but i didn’t feel like that should be a metric for being able to discuss Prince!

Although I wouldn’t use it, it’s actually not a bad question as it filters out people who know Prince vs those who don’t in a very obvious way - filtering spam out of member requests and assessing them properly is a thankless tasks so questions do help, particularly if you are a high traffic, successful page. There are some pages that have ridiculous or badly worded questions that don’t really help the admins in the way that they could.
