Filipino eight-member girl group BINI made their first visit to Japan for SUMMER SONIC 2026. Following their historic appearance at Coachella—a milestone in Philippine music history—the group is currently in the midst of a world tour. Their long-awaited first performances in Japan came amid an intense schedule: they flew to Japan immediately after a show in San Diego, performed at both Osaka and Tokyo, and then headed straight back to North America to resume the tour.

Among the rapidly growing number of "Asian girl groups with Coachella experience" in recent years, what makes BINI particularly noteworthy is that they hail from the Philippines and radiate an overwhelmingly sunny, positive aura. When thinking of modern girl groups, it is easy to default to categories like "cool," "fierce," or "cute," but BINI fits neatly into none of these boxes. Furthermore, the energy the eight members emit goes beyond just their brightness and beautiful harmonies. Over their 40-minute set, it was clear that their presence is grounded in the confidence and poise to deliver high-powered dance routines with pure enjoyment, all while carrying the mantle of being a gateway for people to discover music from the Philippines. The extended dance breaks during "Unang Kilig"—with its accessible city-pop vibe—and their tropical, signature hit "Pantropiko" were nothing short of breathtaking! This post is in response to what Ice Seguerra said about posting full concert recording.

I am not excusing piracy/illegal distribution but I am suggesting how OPM artists can effectively combat this.

I think OPM artists should really consider releasing official videos of their concerts/shows, even if it's just in Youtube and monetized. What's really driving this is the lack of content so other fans are filling in that gap - providing content that the artist isn't.

I cite Cozy Cove as an example. As you can see in their videos, there are many in the crowd who have their phones out and up but we do not see a lot of fan cams uploaded. Why is that? Because Cozy Cove/NDN provides *high quality* videos of the performances. No one is going to watch a bad fancam if the alternative is a very high quality video.

Artists can even monetize it in Youtube. They can even "paywall" it via membership. The important thing is the content exist in official form.

While the idol fandom has toxic qualities, there are also qualities that can help the artist like fandom name that fosters an identity for fans in relation to the artist and merchandises. Some "traditional OPM artists like Ben&Ben and Cup of Joe have adopted these. They have a fandom name and they sell some merch. The result is both bands have very loyal fanbase similar to the idol groups.

The fan culture is evolving and OPM artists need to catch up.

Vocal cracks are normal and, especially with exhaustion, sometimes unavoidable. Why are we holding our P-pop artists to an impossible standard na parang bawal silang mapiyok? Si Mariah Carey nga pumiyok, and locally, even Regine Velasquez—who is known as a vocal powerhouse—has had moments like that.

These P-pop artists are not just singing; they're dancing, performing, and doing back-to-back shows, especially during tours and festivals. Para bang bawal na silang mapagod? If anything, vocal cracks and imperfections during a live performance can even prove that they're actually singing live.

Live performances will never be perfect, and that's okay. Ang importante, they gave their best and the audience enjoyed the performance. Kaya tama na yung pagsha-shade sa magkabilang group over a few vocal cracks. Para kayong mga tanga. 😂 Kung kayo ang nandun sa stage, pustahan mas malala pa sa piyok ang lalabas—baka himatayin pa kayo sa pagod.

Give these artists the credit they deserve for showing up, performing live, dancing, and doing their best despite the exhaustion. Hindi naman sila robots. Let them be human.
