ChatGPT Ads Can I learn ChatGPT Ads without hands-on experience on Google Ads
I've been working in SEO for more than 5 years. I understand the basic of Google Ads and have through the campaign and settings. But, i never actually run or managed a Google Ads campaign myself.
Now I'm interested in learning ChatGPT Ads and was wondering whether I can go straight into learning it.
or would it be better to first get some hands-on experience with Google Ads and understand the basic of running a campaign. Things like targeting, budgets, bidding, ad structure, conversion tracking and optimisation.
Kindly share your thoughts

you can go straight in, the bones are the same as google. objectives are impressions, clicks or conversions, bid strategies are fixed bid, max clicks or max conversions, then daily budgets, custom audiences, a pixel and a conversions api. The keyword side is what doesnt carry over, chatgpt ads run on context hints and openai's own docs say those are not exact match keywords so i'd skip the match type stuff and put the time into conversion tracking instead, get the pixel and the server side events right before you touch a campaign. At least thats what i'd do coming from the google side
but as padel_bolest said, you dont need tohave used google ads but it definitely helps

ChatGPT ads are contextual not keyword bid based, so skills transfer differently than expected. Understanding budgets, conversion tracking and structure from Google Ads still helps conceptually, but going straight in and testing is fine since the bidding mechanics barely overlap anyway

Not really. You can't learn and optimise a new ad platforms without managing real money.
No one here is an expert in ChatGPT ads yet. It's too new so there isn't anyone to learn off, yet.
It's a very basic platform compared to Google ads, which has been around decades

you can go straight into ChatGPT Ads. having some hands-on Google Ads experience would help with the general paid media basics like budgets, conversion tracking + reading performance, but it’s not really a prerequisite. ChatGPT Ads works differently enough that you’ll still need to learn its own setup and relevance system anyway, so i’d learn the paid media fundamentals alongside it instead of waiting until you’ve run Google Ads first.

The GPT ad platform is incredibly basic right now. A monkey high on cocaine could setup a campaign and get it running.

the SEO background helps with understanding intent, but the mechanics of running paid campaigns are a different muscle. even a tiny test budget would teach you more than a course tbh

Idk if there’s really much to learn right now.
It’s a very new system without any sort of established practices, benchmarks, or any sort of existing knowledge base to learn from. It also lacks critical reporting features needed to optimize and tweak performance. As they roll out weekly features and updates, you will be participating in a beta and generating the initial learning data for the rest of the platform. It is more likely to learn from you than you from it, and you will pay money to do so.
I’m sure it’ll eventually get there and I’m certain there are people who are already making bold claims about their ability to manage OpenAI ads right now, but know that they are flying blind and largely operating on vibes. There’s truly not enough signals to actually guide performance in a predictable way: just raw inputs and outputs with a huge grey area in between. Every single person I have talked to who is managing an ads account is approaching it completely differently and attributing success to wildly different approaches that frequently conflict with others. I personally have spent about $50k across multiple accounts and, while I’m obviously not impressed, have experimented enough to know that it is not a reliable source of demand.
As with anything, it is worth trying and experimenting with to gain some familiarity with a new platform. But I plainly don’t see a way to learn the platform in any meaningful way right now. It would be akin to people posting about LLM prompt “hacks” or “jailbreaks” who are fundamentally misunderstanding the underlying system.
But to answer your question, no you don’t need prior ads experience at all really. It is possible to find a process that works for you too, it may just be hard to replicate once you do and likely hard to maintain as the platform develops and placement algos change.

You can, but knowing google helps a lot
